I’ve been unable to stream over mobile data from my Android device and recently started having issues with a Fire Stick. It’s not absolute, from time to time I am able to stream on the Android, but it’s rare, the Fire Stick seems better. I am always able to log in and see all the content on the server and remote access reports that it is accessible outside my local network, I’m on server version 4.30.2, the Android is 7.30.0.16390, and I’m not sure what the Fire Stick is running. This is a new development, I’ve been able to stream on anything remotely up until a week or two ago.
Below are logs that show a snippet from the console of a successful stream on wifi and an unsuccessful attempt on mobile data. I’ve also attached screen shots of the errors trying to stream over mobile data.
It looks like you have a Linux system and found an entry in the log “handleStreamRead code 104: Connection reset by peer” . Maybe there are some temporary files that can be deleted and see if that resolves it… Here is the link I found where it talks about strange behavior with Plex running on Linux. Strange behaviour on plex server Linux
Also look at the section where it talks about changing the audio settings to force the Plex server to transcode Audio rather than letting the Android or FireStick do it.

The suggestions in the linked thread didn’t fix it, it also seems like a different problem, I have no troubles streaming locally, only remote. The server is accessable and I can see progress and New files as they change. I thought it might be a transcoding issue, but that would show up regardless of being local or remote correct?
I tried moving the cache and codec folders to see if recreating them would fix it, but that just broke the server install.
This server is running on a dedicated machine, accessing the media files over NFS served by an OpenMediaVault VM if that matters at all, I don’t think it does though.
Here’s another tidbit of info that I think might be more related, I am able to connect and stream from the server on a VPN connection. Is there a chance remote access can be partially blocked on some devices be the firewall? I’m using pfSense.
Debug log attached. Oddly, this time many failed to play then one did start playing, that’s either a new development or I’ve stopped it before it’s gotten that far in the past.
The server gets the play setup request but then nothing happens.
The client doesn’t start .
This is a communication problem but i have no idea where it is.
Is there anything else I can provide to help you find a solution? I changed a few firewall settings that supposedly helped other users with no change in behavior.
I’ve done a bunch of testing and I can’t figure this out, sometimes after a server reboot everything behaves fine for about 30 minutes, but not always. Sometimes if I log out of the remote app and back in it works for a while, but not always.
I’ve had a bit of a breakthrough this morning, I’ve installed the plexamp app and that is working remotely for music, while the main PLEX app is not. So I think the problem is in the Android app, not the server.
