Server setting not visible in ubuntu 20.4

Hi, I’m encountering a problem I’ve never seen before. I installed Plex server on a new Ubuntu 20.4 box. No errors on install but when I log into the web interface on :32400/web the server configuration options are not available. I can see my friends plex server as well as the plex live tv channels but cannot configure the server itself. Any ideas?

I’ve made sure that the plex server folder under /var/lib is owned by the plex user and group and have rebooted and went through a uninstall/reinstall cycle without luck.

Server Version#:1.30.0.6486
Player Version#:

what’s the IP address of the box? (Is it RFC-1918 compliant)
Are you and it on the same RFC-1918 compliant subnet or are you on the machine’s console?

Are you using a FQDN? (can’t use FQDN’s during setup / claming)

Attempting to open only “:32400/web” won’t work. Most machines use IPv6
You’ll minimally need http://127.0.0.1:32400/web

Sorry, to be clear the box is on the same subnet and has a (192.168.x.x) ip. Box is reachable since I can log in.

ChuckPa,
Turns out it was a subnet issue. I have a separate vlan for my A/V stuff and, as much as I thought I had worked in the past, it was indeed stopping me from accessing the server setup and admin menus from my other vlan.

I’m sure the requirement to be on the same vlan to setup the server is stated somewhere but I must have missed it.

You must be on the same subnet and VLAN.

Remember:

  1. VLAN is layer 2 (switching)
  2. TCP/IP is layer 3 .

As you said, It’s possible to get layer 2 crossed up while being on the same subnet and not see what you need but the reverse is also true. Gotta love it
