Server Version#: Version 1.21.1.3830
Player Version#: 4.52…1
I run plex on a hp proliant microserver gen8 with truenas and plex running in a jail
- 16 gb ram
- i3 3240
- ironwolf pro
This should be enough for at least 1 steam, let alone 1 local stream right?
It mostly just keep loading or allot of buffering.
The lower quality movies mostly all work (but still not all).
Transcoding off
How do I debug this? I should have 100Mbit for remote, but I know i can reach gigabit locally.
That i3 has a cpubenchmark score just over 2200. That is just enough to transcade a 10 Mbps h264 file. If your source files have higher bitrates or if you are using other codecs, the performance drops.
Used to use these at my old place of work - to run VMs for Devs. Shocking performance. So no surprise they cannot handle Plex.
I’m about to get a 1265l v2 with a score of 4438 that will prob boost something, but still I would expect it to work with score of 2200 for just 1 stream…
Is there anything I can do to make everything run? 4k is nice but if it won’t play (even in 1080p) it’s useless…
I can’t imagine that something running a VM is not powerfull enough to encode/transcode ONE stream?
You’d think but having used two of those boxes, and seeing them take 2 days to complete Windows Updates - I would look to invest in new hardware.
Shame PMS doesn’t let you share the performance across servers.
Well my investing in hardware was this cpu first and waiting on the 1265l v2 , after that in about 2 years I want to use my current pc as nas and replace my current nas
The resolution doesn’t really matter. It’s the codecs and bitrates involved. You can have a 720p file, but if it is HEVC or 20 Mbps, it may not transcode smoothly.
It depends on the file. Can you reproduce this problem then get the server log, Plex Media Server Logs | Plex Support, and the XML for that video you played, Investigate Media Information and Formats | Plex Support.
