Server shutting down by itself

Server Version#: 1.41.8.9834
Player Version#: 1.109.0.329

Not sure what is happening here, but my server was randomly disconnecting. The program would stay running on my computer, but go offline. I would have to close the PMS program, then re-open it, and it would be back online.. but not for long. After frustrating myself with enough attempts at fixing settings, I wiped my PC and did a clean, fresh, installation of Windows. After re-installing PMS, it only disconnected once. I was skeptical, but left it, and it seems to be staying connected with no problem… until today. I left the house for 20 minutes, came back, and Plex was offline. This time the PMS program completely shut down and was not running. When I started the program again, it came back online. I don’t know why it’s acting this way. All settings are mostly default, except some cosmetic settings and what was needed to get the remote access online. Otherwise everything is fresh. I checked the logs and all it says is [Nanoserver] Ordered to stop server.

Please help! I don’t want this to keep happening.

There are backup solutions in linux that would shut down services before it performed a full backup. You’re in Windows and I don’t know of a backup software that would turn off plex in Windows.

You should upload logs.

This message means that the server process received a signal to perform an orderly shutdown. Which means it must have come either from the user in front of the machine, or was triggered by Windows itself. Usually when Windows is performing a restart.

If you use a regular Desktop Windows, you will at least once a month experience an automatic reboot. Chances are that it will be more than once if any kind of emergency patch is issued by Microsoft.
If your Windows is not configured to log in your user accopunt automatically after a reboot, Plex server won’t get started. It runs by default in a “user” context.
Did you have to log in to Windows after these occurences?

If you did, you should consider

  1. switching off or remove non-used Windows features and apps
  2. run Plex server as a system service. Because this would start Plex server after a reboot – even without a user logging in to Windows
