Hi,
My brother runs a Plex server on an older Mac Mini in his house. He’s only using it to host content for use within the house, and has not configured it for any external connectivity.
Periodically, he and his family lose use of the server, as it will not serve content while it is presenting the question about whether he wants to update to a new server version. He doesn’t frequently check on the server, as it does everything he needs it to do as-is (running whatever version it has been running). He would much rather treat it as an appliance.
His most preferred option would be for the server to keep serving content even if a new version is available and he hasn’t responded to the ‘update?’ question. But if that’s not possible, there should be a way to just prevent it from ever checking for updates. The logic here is that even years-old versions of the server software did everything he needed them to do, and his server is not accessible outside his home network anyway.
I have to say that even though I handle things differently on my server, he should be able to run his like an appliance and NOT have it quit serving content just because a new version has been released.
Is there some configuration option we’re missing which would prevent this from happening? As currently implemented, the auto-update mechanism is functionally equivalent to a denial-of-service attack.
