Server unavailable

Hello, since the new version of the Xbox one I cannot use plex anymore.
I’m using plex server in my local network. All my devices can connect to the server and play the videos except of the Xbox one. Whenever I try to connect to the server with the xbox one app it says: server unavailable

I removed the Xbox from the devices list, reinstalled the app and restarted plex server.
I’ve no clue what could be the reason.

Anyone an idea?

Thank you very much

I’m having the exact same issue. Nothing I do troubleshooting wise seems to make a difference. I’ve tried removing the xbox from the account, uninstalling/reinstalling the app, relinking, optimizing the database, but nothing will get it to connect. It clearly sees the server as it’s got the proper name, but it constantly says it’s unavailable. I’ve also troubleshooted by connecting with other devices. PS3 and PS4 both work fine. Another Pc works fine too.

So I’m kind of at a loss here.

Have you tried switch the security setting from the default value (“always”) to “Allow on local networks”?

To access this setting in the app, use the hamburger button (Three horizontal lines) and select settings. Under security switch the never option to “Allow on same network as server”

This will allow the Xbox to fallback from secure only connection and still use the unsecured connections when on the LAN.

I was able to get past it by switching user profile

I have this issue now too and it is not resolved by switching the security settings to allow on local networks

I have had to switch my user profile for a couple of weeks now to get the thing to work but that doesn’t help either with this new issue

Frustrating

For me switching to “Allow on same network” has fixed the issue – the same thing happened with the Windows app as well. Thanks!

so, for me it was enough to change the settings to “always”

Thank you for the hint.

I’ve tried switching security settings, profiles, nothing. I keep getting server unavailable even before the home screen comes up. I had a look in the logs and didn’t see anything. According to the logs it connected successfully.

I also am having the same issues, seems to have been fine before the new version 1.4 ? Windows machines and iphone on the same network are fine, xbox one keeps saying cannot see the server, can get the contents to show some times but clicking on a video or music just looses the connection

Can we get some idea Dom or Moussa if this issue will likely be fixed in the update coming Tuesday? For those of us can’t fix it by changing the security setting, it is obviously a killer

@mal68 The upcoming 1.5 update is purely to roll back the storage changes. Is your server Secure connections setting set to Required? If so, try changing it down to Preferred or Disabled.

@moussa.uk Thanks for the response

I checked and this setting was already on preferred, I changed it to disabled but still no luck.

My main account still can’t get past the loading screen, as has been the case since the issue first surfaced with 1.3. But the second account that I had been using since 1.3 was able to access the server, but now having this issue (I think since around 1.4). So it still gets past the loading screen but this new issue (at least for me) is preventing all access.

@mal68 Could you perhaps temporarily share the server with me so I can see if there is an issue connecting to it?

I’m having the same problem since yesterday. I can’t log in with any of the three accounts I have on my Xbox One. I’ve been using plex since day One it came out on the Xbox One, and now it is useless. No method works for me.

I’m having the exact same issue :frowning:

Got mine working with the second profile again, not exactly sure how, I removed the Xbox One from the server’s device list. Uninstalled Plex App on the Xbox One and this didn’t seem to help. I rebooted the server and Xbox, still no joy. I set my server to Disable secure connections and set the App (under the second profile which is the only one which allows access to settings) to allow non-secure connections always (it was set to fall back to non-secure and the server was set to secure as preferred previously). I don’t think this helped me. I then went to settings in the app and chose to remove the account (or sign out, I can’t remember which) and it immediately started working.

So now it is working on a second account which is not my primary account, logged into Plex as my wife who is set as family on Plex and has full share access to my library, this seems to work for now but not ideal. I am on v1.4.0.0 of the Xbox app and v0.9.12.19 of the server on Windows 10.

Yeah this isnt working for me either, never had any problems before the update and I’ve tried all of the above, recommended settings… nothing works…

EDIT: I’m using the 1.5.0.0 Version of the Xbox App.

I had the same problem too and i fix mines by going to account and looking at my info. If it says undefined than click signout. When I did that it put back my plex account info and now plex is working for me again. I dont know if this is a problem too but its worth a try.

Also having trouble on both Xbox One’s after 1.5 update. 2 different accounts. Both say “We’re having trouble connecting to Xbox. To check service status” when I launch plex. Everything else works perfectly fine.

Just to add Plex is no longer working here since the last update. It says it is not connected to the internet, but it most definitely is since Netflix is working.

I’m not sure how stuff like this is slipping out in releases - methinks you need a bigger beta group to prevent showstoppers such as this.
