Hi all. Anyone else having this problem? I’m running a PC as plex media server and an xbox one running plex. The media server set up went OK, sorted all files and downloaded metadata etc. Only snag is the xbox one plex is awful. Probably 90% of the time I get the “The server _______ is unavailable. Plex will automatically try to reconnect this server.” message. On the times I do get it to connect I can play a movie, sometimes all the way throu but mostly at a random point in playback it stops, I get the “there was a problem” message and then I’m back to the “server not available…” when I navigate back. Sometimes Plex randomly reconnects itself after a random period of time (always over five minutes or so) sometimes not. The media server is on, connected to the home network and I can access all the filing system on the PC through my home network from either of my other laptops. I though Plex was going to be the answer instead of KODI (no xbox one app) but I won’t be purchasing any plex pass to use android devices on this show so far! Anyone got a solution?
Plex was working just fine on my XBox One right up until a recent update (4 days ago it was fine). I confirmed I can access from my iPhone and Roku just fine, but the XBox app doesn’t want to connect to the server locally. It will connect to Plex cloud. So I think it’s a glitch in a recent update, which just came into the XBox. Watching this thread to see if anyone else is having problems or if a fix is coming.
nearly same problem for me.
Original app works find, new app won’t find the server ever.
Reverting to using the working fine still older app
@chipidee @JamesZack @RyuOnline If you PM me with your Xbox Live account email I can get a build of the app to you to test a possible fix.
Having the same problem
and my sky box has broken too, in a world of hurt here! (first world problems)
I had same problem with my Xbox One not seeing my server on the same network … I had to manually input the ip address of my local server to see it … my friend is having the same issue on his Xbox One and can’t see my server anymore, but I don’t know what to manually put in for him as he is not on my local network.
Plex asks for the 4 digit code to link to account and then can’t find my server automatically like it did before this latest update. For my friends that I share with that are not on my network, what can be inputted manually for them so they can see my server until whatever fix is implemented that lets Plex find things on its own like it did before … ??

wait is that possible? I didn’t think it was for things like xbox or firetv. I don’t see any options for revert under manage-app ![]()
Had the same Problem. I fixed it by manually adding the Servers IP Adress to the client
same problem here. old version was working fine, plex still works on my other devices (android phone and tablet, pc) but wont work on my xbox one.
I have plex family with 4 users configured. only with main user I got the problem. other users are working fine.
even adding the ip to manual server dont fix for me.
hey, this could be interesting. I have the same problem with win10 app.
I’m on the same network as the server.
on my notebook I can access plex via web (using chrome and direct connection http://192.168.xxx.xxx:32400…), but the app only works with other family users not with mine (main one). loggin in with my user it shows my server in servers list but it says “direct connection not avalaible” or “unauthorized”
Mine can’t see my server if my xbox one is on wifi, but everything works fine wired. Worked over wifi before update.
I also am having the same ever since the latest Xbox update it will not see either of my servers. All of my Tv’s and other devices can see the server. I have not tried my PS4 yet… But my Xbox one is the on the main TV and this is super annoying.
Anyone found a fix for this besides manually inputting IP address into the xbox app? I have tried that and just about everything else i can possibly think of…
@TheTappsman and others, an update is coming tomorrow with a fix for this as well as other issues.
@Moussa all good my man, I uninstalled the server from my PC, uninstalled the app from my xbox, reset my router and then reinstalled everything and it’s working. My new problem is I can’t get it to stream from my iphone to my chromecast. It loads on the iphone and connects to chromecast but when i select media to play it just loads forever but doesn’t actually play or timeout. I’m hoping the update fixes this.
Cheers
@moussa WOOOHOOOOO! Salute!
v2.0.4 should now be available to you all, which includes a fix for this issue. There is now a Allow fallback to insecure connections setting in the app settings that will allow you to connect insecurely locally.

I’m a lifetime subscriber and the latest update revoked my access to my server which isn’t officially supported anymore. I understand not getting new features, but to deny me access to my server through the app took complete functionality away which completely goes against what you guys said you would do.
“That means that Plex Media Server versions 0.9.17.0 and newer will not be available and will not run on those devices.
Note: Existing installs of older Plex Media Server versions will continue to function as they did before, but newer versions will not be available for those platforms.”
With the update to require me to have version 1.5.1 clearly changes how my Plex Server functions because I can no longer get to it, therefore it has no functionality.
@Moussa I tried to allow the fallback but my app still doen’t Recognize my serve as a local one
@historypsi Minimum versions for Plex Media Server do sometimes change as we update apps so that the apps can take advantage of new features (or as changes in the app are no longer compatible with old server versions). It’s unfortunate but it’s not an arbitrary decision we took to make 1.5.1 the minimum version, there were APIs introduced in that server release that we need for the app to function.
@Pino84 Have a look at https://plex.tv/api/resources?includeHttps=1&X-Plex-Token=your_token_here and see what connections your PMS is reporting. See if you can reach the server through the addresses marked as local="1" on the network your Xbox One is connected to.
