Set Manual Connection Setting in Android TV

Has anyone found a way to reach into the Plex app on the Nvidia Shield and manually set the IP?

I’ve made the local address visible in the plex server settings but that does not allow the player to “find” the server.

It is about to be power outage season and I don’t want to move it onto a different VLAN.

I saw this was recently closed but it feels worth re-opening: How to set manual connection in Android TV client

Also, is there an active open feature request for this that might drive better acknowledgment from the PLEX team.

I have found that even if you manage to access the menu to manually set the IP address, the client still takes a long time trying to connect to Plex the company for authorization. After a long while the client will fall back to the local connection.

This delay is present whether using an AndroidTV or Android client. But it’s not present when using the Plex Kodi plugin.

It appears that Plex the company penalizes users with the delay when trying to connect directly.

My conclusion was that Plex the company is more interested in being a data broker that mines users’ data, and in order to do that they need us to connect to their servers.

Don’t expect anything other than a sarcastic or snarky response from a Plex Employee on here. Support Jellyfin and open source software where the user is the focus, not the product.

The whole reason I have Plex is for entertainment during internet outages and to have privacy. The insistence of Plex devs to force a connection to Plex servers for it to work is a problem. Having been a lifetime Plex Pass member for years, it is a disappointment to me to be abandoned by the project.

I have just installed JellyFin and am already loving it. Bye Plex.
