Set Up Custom Domain with SSL

I want to set my own domain name like I had with emby and set a ssl with let’s encrypt is there a tutorial on how to do this because I can’t seem to find one that I can easily follow. I like plex over emby because it offers online media which is awesome to find some great content when I don’t want to watch what I have. I know it’s under network settings to enable all of that I just need a tutorial

The thing is: you don’t need a custom domain with Plex.
All you need to do is to sign in your server and your clients to a plex.tv account. Everything else (including encryption with a LE cert) is taken care of automatically.

Thanks I’ll take a look my only concern is if plex every goes down without my own domain I won’t be able to access my server

Since all user accounts live on plex.tv, your own domain won’t be of use either.
Logging in or switching user accounts won’t be possible during a plex.tv outage. With or without your own domain.

If Plex goes down (ie authentication API) even with your own domain you won’t be able to access your server. Not unless you have your LAN set as being allowed to access without authentication - even this is made mute if you use Plex Home.

I have my own domain as well, but it won’t do what you think it will do for you.

I really really really wish it did though… I’d love to be able to truly cut the cord.

This. I love the free content that Plex has but I can access most on VUDU and keep a jellyfin or emby for my content because right now we rely on plex to keep all our servers online

Sorry, I don’t understand what you mean here.

@OttoKerner I think they’re referring to keeping a Jellyfin or Emby server handy on your network for when Plex’s authentication API encounters issues - when this happens a lot of users’ Plex servers become unreachable until the API is operational again.
