I had an issue the last time I watched on mobile where I would have to start a video, enter the menus to set subtitles and then without changing a setting, exit it to see subtitles.
Today when I fired it up, it isn’t displaying subtitles at all, on multiple shows. Subtitles are set to enabled, but it isn’t displaying them.
I found a temporary fix. If you open settings and change the display mode from “letterbox” to original and back to “letterbox” the subtitles will work. I also changed the setting to burn subtitles to always.
I agree, but at least I was able to make it work while on vacation, specifically as I watch a ton of Anime and am not fluent in Japanese so without subtitles it wasn’t going to work.
I’ve been having an issue where it will display subtitles on iOS, but not on iPadOS, for the exact same episode. Did a bunch of minor troubleshooting like resetting and deleting the app on both, resetting devices, changing subtitles on both, yet still I can switch back and forth between them, or play them in tandem, and one will have subs while the other doesn’t. It’s infuriating.
I’m having this same issue too, I’m on a iPhone, client version 2025.23.0, and subtitles just don’t work on the phone like they used to. I don’t experience this on any other Plex app but the mobile version.
