Server Version#: Version 1.16.3.1402
Web Version#: Version 4.0.1
I just, a couple of days ago, set up a new server on my Shield. I had no real problems and it is working quite well, with one exception:
When I access my server via http://app.plex.tv/desktop?secure=0# and display the home screen the screen refreshes about every 30-45 seconds.
This happens on Google Chrome Version 76.0.3809.100 and FireFox Vesion 68.0.1
It behaves exactly like I click the “refresh” button.
All other screens are absolutely stable.
Is there a setting somewhere about auto-refreshing the home screen that I could turn off?
The home screen operates normally except when it goes blank during the refresh process.
Anyone have any ideas?
Edit: I have found that if I access the Shield’s server via 192.168.xx.xxx:32400 instead of through Plex.tv the automatic refresh does not happen. I do not know what could possibly be the difference.
One final bump. I doubt there will be any response at this point. Plex is, it seems, uninterested in even trying to fix a bug that seems rather obscure.
The second rate support continues with unabated lack of concern for the customer. While I can use Plex with this bug the fact is it is NOT working correctly. The constant screen refreshes makes using Plex the “right” way impossible.
I guess adding unneeded and unwanted features is more important than actually fixing bugs that impact customers.
@Elijah_Baley Go to Settings -> [Web Client] General and making sure Show Advanced is set then try the Reset Customization option and see if that fixes your issue.
I then put the customization, which was pretty minimal as I removed everything except “On Deck” and “Continue Watching” and put "On Deck on top, and the problem did not reappear. That is my Plex is back exactly the way it was before the reset and it is working correctly no matter how I access it.
Again, thank you. I guess the “bug” is sufficiently hard to reproduce to make it nearly impossible to actually fix.
If I break it again I will report back. Just to restate: My Plex setup is exactly the way it was when the bug showed itself but the reset and restoring it back to the way I want it seems to have fixed the problem.
That does seem a bit like the “Power it off and then back on” fix that is still used in the world of computers to fix almost anything. At least I did not need to take it to the vet to have it “fixed.”
Great. I ran into a similar issue which is why I suggested the reset. I think it was caused by an older configuration that was still floating around that wasn’t playing along nicely with the new app.
This was happening to me on Chrome, I was about to follow this but as soon as I got to settings I saw that the connection wasn’t secure. I don’t remember exactly what it said but clicking the reload securely option solved the issue for me - no need to reset everything. The URL now loads with desktop?secure=1#.
Secure connections are NOT needed. I NEVER use secure connections since it makes no sense to overly complicate things when I allow NO remote access and, except for my dog, there is no one else regularly living with me.
Secure connections, in my case, would be more foolish than putting a padlock on the bathroom door.
To clarify, this wasn’t the secure connection settings for the server, that remains unchanged (preferred not required) and remote access still works perfectly fine. When I went to Web Client—General there was a button at the top that said your connection isn’t secure and an option to resolve it. I clicked this, the page reloaded with a secure connection and the issue stopped.
That being said I use the plex media player to watch, I just had https://app.plex.tv open in a browser to monitor content I was adding (while watching in the player on another monitor). Never had the issue in the player, just the browser, and reloading with a secure connection solved the annoyance. This was also within my home network so it might not be a viable fix if you’re accessing the server remotely depending on your server configuration - just throwing it out there because it fixed my situation.
It was in the browser I was talking about. I see that “security” message all the time and I just ignore it. I just checked and everything is working fine and that message is still there.
Like I said I do NOT believe that “secure” connections have anything at all to do with the problem I was posting about. But the “why” does not matter as long as the issue is fixed.
