I am trying to make a newly purchased SHIELD TV 2017 16GB as an all in one Plex “DVR”. I have plex pass, and I have formatted a 500GB external hard drive to be “internal storage”, however, the Live TV & DVR settings is not available in the settings menu.
I am also running a HDHomeRun Quatro which is working fine on the network.
Please advise.
Login to google play, find the Plex Media Server app and install. The version shipped with the Shield is pre Live TV & DVR.
i got a shield last week and that had me spinning for a while too. Even when ‘automatic updates’ is turned on, somehow I did not have the latest version of the Plex app until I went to the google play store and updated it manually.
I’ve done that, went to google play store, the only 2 options are “Open” and “Uninstall Updates”. I uninstalled updates, then updated, still no Live TV/DVR settings. The web interface says SHIELD ANDROID TV Version 1.4.3.3433
That is a very old version.
Use a web browser on your computer and go on google play. https://play.google.com/
Search for plex media server. Click install and log in using your Shield Google account. Select your Shield in the drop down menu. This will push the latest pms on your shield and will also link pms to your google account. Next update should show up automatically in Google Play app directly on the Shield.
