Not sure if it is just me, but Exoplayer2 seems to not play nicely with movie playback. I get a regular stutter, both on 1080p and Ultra HD (although i’m playing on a Pioneer 1080p Kuro)
Can anyone else confirm or is everyone else working fine on movies?
I’ve tried several movies of differing resolution and differing sound formats and all seem to have a rhythmic stutter!
Yes, I’ve been having this problem since I started testing ExoPlayer2.
For me DVR/LiveTV is fine but half of my 1080p mp4 files that will direct play everywhere will cause freezing/stuttering with EP2. Makes no difference what audio track is used nor does it have to do with subtitles as far as I can see. Same files play back just fine in EP1.
I’ve tried with auto refresh and with it set at different refresh rates with no change.

Thanks, exactly the experience I am having. DVR plays fine with no stutter.

Movie playback on Shield with Exo2 is fine here. Do you have auto refresh rate enabled?
Yes I do. Are you running through an AV receiver? (I am) - I’m wondering what our difference can be.
On the whole I’m finding it much better, but I’m seeing similar issues to others.
Quick succession ff or rew causing the message to popup to retry which then works.
Exoplayer 2 is playing back a series link I’ve had set up for testing since the DVR was added. It worked up to 1.6 and hasn’t worked since. It’s finally working again with Exoplayer 2. I do find it quite stuttery sometimes after ff or rewind for a few seconds (which didn’t happen with 1.6), but it’s much better.
No subtitles on the recordings that I’ve tried so far.
I also notice that on a series recording when it’s playing see the episode list below, if I click on the 3 dots on the right hand side of the episodes the app always crashes. I send an app crash report through for this.
Remove me too please. Unfortunately movies and tv series are our staple diet with Plex, so having those not play correctly with Exoplayer2 is not ideal.
I’m happy to remain in the beta shield app, just without Exoplayer2.
Hopefully the team continue to make good progress - I don’t think Plex DVR is close to being usable as a primary solution for our household at the moment unfortunately, at least not without the wife hitting me with the frying pan…
Cheers, and I’d like to echo the praise for @kinoCharlino

Done. You might need to force quit or ideally, reboot your Shield, to see the difference. Thanks for test! That playback behavior you described is currently expected for the beta, as they work through it.

This change to your account is separate from the beta app, so you’ll remain a beta user.

Sounds like you have a different problem. What client are you using that is running ExoPlayer on?
When you try to play back LiveTV is it direct streaming or transcoding the video?
@kinoCharlino - did you disable Exoplayer 2 on my account? I noticed last night that some recordings weren’t playing any more and I’ve just checked and it no longer says exoplayer 2 on the video overlay…
I’d like to stay on the alpha programme, please, to carry on using exoplayer 2 - could you please re-enable it?
It does not use Exoplayer2 for recorded tv or anything else for that matter. In fact recorded TV now crashes Plex sometimes. Recorded TV is basically unplayable most of the time now and indicates that MPEGTS is an unsupported container.
In response to Cayars questions, I’m using Nvidia Shield TV and the client is the Beta version of Plex on that device.
I could be wrong, but I think most people were removed from EXO2 for general use as they make a few more changes to it to fix a couple of things.
Think of it as early testing (alpha/beta) and they add/remove us as needed to test it. Get feedback and then decide if they need more fixes or can add more features while we keep using it. All depends on the current life cycle and where they are in the dev process.

Exoplayer2 has always been used for live tv, only recorded tv uses the older one so the alpha switch was only for the recorded shows.

That’s correct, in the release version of our Android apps, ExoPlayer v2 is currently only used for Live TV and Local Playback. The Android team is working on bringing full ExoPlayer v2 support across all playback.
