I’m a bit baffled by this. I’ve installed Plex Server on my Shield TV and am trying to connect to my NAS (Synology). I have mounted the storage, but when I try to add libraries in Plex I can’t see the subfolders where my media is located (plex/library/videos/TV). I can only see the ‘plex’ folder.
I can see the subfolders of all the other folders on the NAS though.
Anybody else had this issue?
I have Plex Server installed on my NAS and it works perfectly.
DSM will not grant access to those shares until you go and expressly give permission:
Control Panel - Shared Folders - Permissions (tab).
If you are using NFS to mount with, you will also have to create host-permissions , usually the wildcard * hostname is good enough, to allow host-level NFS access.
I do not know the device. I use Synology with Linux.
As you might have guessed, I’m a bit of a noob when it comes to this, but I have mounted the NAS as admin on my shield, and I have the permissions set for that account. I’ve also set up NFS with the * hostname.
It’s a strange one, and I think it’s an issue with the Shield rather than Plex.
Hi finn, going to hop in here and take over for chuck, I have a syno and a shield. So on the shield you went into settings and then storage and then network storage, you then connected to your synology and put in your username and password (you said admin right?). On the synology you have shares setup I assume and are sharing a folder that contains all your movies and such? If so then on the plex media server web page for the shield (plex.tv) login there and hit launch, then go into your server on the left hand drop down. CLick add new library, then go to the share that has the movies in it (it wont show files just the folder, choose the highest one that has only movies in it).
I’ll keep an eye on this thread if you need more help.
jmcgeejr, that’s pretty much what I did. When I use the plex media webpage to add libraries I can only see the parent directory. When I click on it, it appears to be empty but that’s where all of my media folders are. I’d assumed that I’d set up the permission correctly given that PMS works fine on the Syno (and I also stream from the folders on Kodi on the Shield).
When I go into the Shield settings and navigate to the network storage, it says that my Plex folder is 0KB, but the other folders that I can access have an actual size associated to them (if that makes sense).
It feels like I’m missing something with the permissions though, I’m just not that clued up to work it out. Think I need to set up a user for the shield as a starting point though, I don’t like the idea of logging in as admin.
As a starting point I set up a dedicated user for the Shield so that I could stop logging in as admin, and that has solved the issue! Not sure why, obviously something to do with permissions, but hey ho!

Was having the same problem. Added a user in DISKSTATION named Plex, used that user to remount my DISKSTATION in Shield and everything works now.
Brilliant solution…I can now see all the folders in DISKSTATION so I can fully populate my media in Plex.
