NAS DS918+ stores all my movies. I have an ethernet cable running from it directly to my Nvidia Shield which has Plex loaded on it. I am trying to add the NAS movie folder to Plex Media Server. The issue is that Plex does not see my NAS. On the PC I can see the NAS when I click on network. I have confirmed my Synology Diskstation has given Plex “Read only” permissions as well. But whenever I click on add library and get to the part where is browses media sources…It will not detect the NAS. Any help would be appreciated
Did you mount the Synology SMB shares on the Shield? This is in the Shield settings (Settings → Device Preferences → Storage), not in Plex settings. Once that is done, Plex Media Server should be able to see your media. The userid used to mount the SMB shares must have at least read only access to the media files.
Consider running PMS on the DS918+ instead of the Shield. Library scans, thumbnail generation, deep analysis, etc will be much faster.
Overall, it is much easier to run PMS on the DS918+ than the Shield. It is easier to get to log files, the Plex database, etc on the DS918+ than the Shield.
The Shield is an awesome client. It is a so-so Plex server.
