Should auto-picking audio and subtitle tracks work for shared users?

I have a shared user that has correctly set their Audio & Subtitle Settings on their own account page, which I verified by getting them to take a screenshot for me. Their settings match my own.

When I add new media, the language & subtitle tracks get picked correctly based on my language preference. However, for the shared user the correct tracks are never automatically picked. I’ve tested by adding completely new media files that they wouldn’t have seen before.

Is this feature supposed to work for shared users accessing my server? I just want to check that this should be working before I spend time trying to figure out what’s going on.

This is what my and their account settings page shows:

AUDIO & SUBTITLE SETTINGS
Track Selection – English audio, English subtitles shown with foreign audio
Searches – Prefer non-hearing-impaired subtitles, Prefer non-forced subtitles

I also have the same settings applied on the server settings page (not account), which is maybe why it’s working for me? E.g. if the account settings don’t work at all, and I’m just falling back to the server settings.

Which type of Plex client is the user using?

Does he, in his settings, actually have the check box above all the language selectors ticked?

Is it possible that you are using now a newer version of the server?
As opposed to back when you invited your friend?
