today I discovered a bug which prevents the automatic audio and subtitle track selection (can be set in the server settings) for shared users (Does not matter if it is a Plex Home member, if it is a discrete user (with email) or just a Plex Home User)
So shared users have manually select the audio & subtitle tracks, because the standard settings of the server don't work.
The standard setting for a movie is always the first audio track and no subtitle for shared users.
The server settings are ignored, which normally work fine for me (the owner).
Is it possible to also set the standard audio & subtitle tracks for shared users (just like the owner)?
A better feature would be that shared users can set their preffered audio/subtitle track (just like the server settings, but for each shared user and not only the server) and all standard tracks for movies / tv series get updated, but only if the audio/subtitle settings are not changed manually by the shared user.
Those settings, as you've noticed, are only for the server owner. They do not affect Shared Users. There is no way in the Plex interface to force the behavior on Shared Users. However, most, if not all, the clients allow the shared Users to make these changes themselves in their preference settings.
Having said that, if you're familiar with editing the Plex database manually, you can edit the Accounts table to force this behavior. I've done it for a few of my friends who requested it of me, and it works as hoped. It's just a matter of editing the two "auto-select" fields for each User requesting the change.
To always enable subtitles, the Auto Subtitle field should be a 2, instead of a 0. My users all want the first sound track to be the default for them, so the Auto-Audio field is set to 1 for all of them. If your main account is setup as you describe above with the settings you want your shared users to have, then the easiest thing to do is to edit the other User records to look like the Server Owner record, for those two Auto- values.
If you are not familiar with editing databases, then I do not suggest attempting the above, as you could screw-up your entire server if you do something you shouldn't. But if you are an old hand at databases, then it's a relatively simple change. ;)
The setup for subtitles is different when you have managed users, and your not the KING of your own server, where default subtitles selection is possible!
You have to select the SUBTITLES BEFORE you start the stream when you are playing shared content!
That is why this works when using RASPLEX and why it dosent work using PLEXBMC....
When you select a Movie (in RASPLEX) you get the option to select any of the subtitles in the folder and then they are trans-coded into the movie when pushing play.
