For making it easier to choose, what to record, it would be nice, if in guide it would show what you already have in your libraries. And also like there is an other poll for show what is already in recording schedule to avoid duplicate recordings. Also add “get info” for items that it shows already in library (it would be fast to check if previous version is better/similar quality/or worse and you could choose if you want to record that new one from TV).
Any idea if this feature will ever be integrated into the product? When I see a movie I would like to record I have to go my library to check first then go back. This feature would make the task of setting up recordings so much easier.
I created a feature request specifically asking for this feature to be in place when using the “browse” page filters. It got closed as this request is very similar…
… So I’m adding my voice here. I would love to see an “In Library” marker against films and TV shows that already exist in a local libraries. Even better I would love to be able to filter out “In Library” items on the browse page to show only films and TV listings not in my libraries.
I think the way that Plex handles recording (or in this case not recording) episodes already detected within your library could be improved.
First, I would add an icon or data point to communicate that the item within the EPG that you’ve selected has already been detected within your library and won’t be recorded. It would appear that a recent change at least “rejects” the request to record (when doing a single airing) and won’t apply the red icon/schedule a recording. But it’s not really very intuitive at the moment.
The second improvement would be to only apply “new/existing” episode filtering to series/scheduled recordings. If I go into the EPG and manually specify an airing I want to record, I think that should supersede whether or not that episode has been detected within my library.
Perhaps surface an interstitial message notifying the user that the item is technically already within their library (and that this recording would be a duplicate), but the fact that I have to move or remove content from my library in order for plex to schedule the recording is not ideal. I have had issues with some shows being two parters, and Plex refuses to record the second half without me removing the first part from my library. It is in these cases that I do not expect Plex to have perfect understanding of the episode structure, but I do expect it to give me the option to manually override and record things that I know I’m going to want.
The last improvement, while I’m on the subject, would be to add some logic to the existing episode detection - where if the episode in the library is substantially shorter than the time slot - it can be presumed to be an incomplete or partial recording (something you actually have a flag for!) and will be replaced. If you take the airing’s timeslot, less the average amount of commercials stripped for that given duration/slot - you could replace partial airings that were allowed/permitted via the recording option.
Should be able to go to the guide and schedule a recording regardless of the series settings. Sometimes the EPG is wrong and you need to manually schedule a recording but if it is in a series and ‘thinks’ it record once already, it will not schedule it. I have to change the series to record new and repeat to get it to record the correct EPG entry.
Not only that - but Plex will act as if everything is fine and that it’ll record… but when it comes time to do so, it won’t.
If there’s a conflict with an existing episode in your media - say so at the time of scheduling
+1 Vote from me.
Any features that provide you feedback on what you already have in your library when looking at forthcoming films or shows in the TV guide, and helps you decide if you want to schedule the recording would be fantastic.
This is very similar to another feature request. Apologies if I have linked incorrectly
In the movies on later section, I would like this list to indicate which movies I already have in my libraries and highlight if a HD version is now available over the SD version that I have in my library.
Currently if I am not sure if have already recorded I have to search my library.
Thanks
