It would be great to have a little more functionality in the Recently Added section for each library on the Dashboard. Specifically I would love the ability to have it filter anything marked as “watched” out of that section, so I can see what remains to watch out of my recently added content.
I also would like to see this.
I use this often to decide whether to watch a new show or movie and not go in to my library directly. but after a few days its just pages of watched items that are no use.
This makes sense, or atleast make it possible to configure the view, why should we be seeing something we dont want to!!
Thank you
it might still make sense to have the current version as an alternative hub w/ “recently added” being used for the unseen ones and “last added” just showing the entire sequence of all recently added items.
Either that or something you can toggle on and off in settings. It would be kind of comparable to how shows on the dashboard automatically display the next episode after you watch one. Kind of prepping you for the next content to watch.
Agreed, this is a silly missing feature. Of course you would be most interested in recently added unwatched things.
This still getting juggled around with nothing happening from it? Brought this up years ago, and upvoted others saying the same thing.
Bumping this one up with a +1 vote for this feature. I like the “recently added” section, but it would be much more useful if it could be filtered to show only those unwatched items.
The library allows filtering movies by unwatched and then sorting by date added. This can be saved as a collection or playlist. If Plex would allow users to assign library filters (or user-defined collections or playlists) as a section to the home screen, I think everyone here would be super happy. I hope someone from the dev team picks up on this.
Emby has had this since before this thread was created. 6 years later nothing, Kinda sad. Im about done with plex
You can achieve this functionality today in Plex. Here’s an example for a movies-type library.
- Select the Library view for the library.
- View the library by Movies, and sort “By Date Added.”
- Change “All” to “Advanced Filters.”
- Select the “Unwatched” filter and set it to “is true.”
- Optionally, add other relevant filters and/or set an item limit.
It should end up looking something like this:

- On the right side of the page, select Save As → Save as Smart Collection (it’s important that you select the Save as Smart Collection option). Then, give the collection a meaningful name (I suggest “Recently Added and Unwatched Movies”).

View your movies library by Collections and find the one you just created. Click the vertical ellipsis in the bottom-right of its poster and select Visible On → Home (and/or Library/Friends’ Library).

The collection will now appear as a hub on your home screen just like any other hub. Its order and visibility can be managed in the normal way, via Settings → [Server Name] → Libraries → Manage Recommendations.
The collection is dynamic and will update whenever the filter criteria are met/unmet.
Optionally, you can now disable Plex’s built-in Recently Added for your movie libraries.
That’s brilliant.
Thanks for providing the step-by-step how to achieve this until such time that Plex adds the option of a selectable watched/unwatched filter on the recommendations.
When adding several shows, videos, etc. the “Recently Added” display grows. Sometimes these are added for other family members and the “Recently Added” is so cluttered that it’s almost useless.
How about an option that when a show has been flagged as “watched” that it NOT appear as “Recently Added”. That way I can uncluttered the various “Recently Added” displays.
This is a duplicate of another suggestion. You should move your votes to the other one for more impact
I searched for several terms before starting this one, but no joy. So what’s the other topic or what can I search for that’ll find it please.
Thanks… I like my suggestion better since the one you linked seems to be asking that each show have a flag “sow in recently added” OR per library (e.g tv shows, videos, etc). I don’t see any comments that would make this more clear.
Would it possible to add a feature where you can toggle watched media on or off for the ‘recently added’ lines on the main screen? In fact to have this as an option on all fields of the home screen would be great.
I opened another topic that the moderators feel is similar. I felt that my suggestion was (a) different, and (b) much better, but moderators closed mine down.

I like this feature request.
One of my family members has media that nobody else is really interested in. My current workarounds include -
One option is to put it in a different Library, and only share it with that user.
Lately I put it in a different Library, but I change the Visibility setting on that Library. The interested user can sort the Library by “Date Added” when they want to.
