Show/Season Posters only change once, cannot switch to another one afterwards

Server Version#: 1.26.0.5715
Player Version#: 1.43.4.2971-aa2133cc

Title says it. I can change a poster once, but all subsequent poster changes for that show (or season) don’t do anything. I can change a poster for another show, but not that one. The exception is when I provide the show/season pic myself (as uploading a file) then I can change it as much as I want.

Issue occurs on “Plex for Windows,” Firefox using “Plex.tv” and the server’s ip address in Firefox.
I use Plex on the same Windows 10 PC as my Plex Server.

Any help is appreciated, it’s a very weird issue.

I have the same issue since a few days, it also affects background images.

Server Version: 1.26.0.5715

The log says something like:
[HttpClient] HTTP/2.0 (0.2s) 404 response from GET https://me.plexapp.com/services/pickMedia?guid=plex%3A%2F%2F[....etc]

looks like a http/api issue?

I don’t know much about the backend to Plex, but that could be the case. I wonder if it affects everyone else too. Thanks for the added information. I hope someone can use this to assist with fixing the problem.

@Sandman618 If you don’t mind trying betas, can you please try 1.26.1 which was released a couple of days ago. I’ve been trying to reproduce this but cannot

Try this: after switching the poster selection the second time, trigger Refresh Metadata of the movie/show.

Thanks, this helped “a little”. I try to sum up the weird behaviour:

  • After adding the movie freshly, Cover A is auto assigned.
  • Changing to Cover B works then
  • Changing again, to e.g. Cover C does not work, Cover B stays.
  • Refreshing Metadata then while Cover C is saved and B is showing, Cover C then shows correctly
  • Changing then again to Cover B, Cover A shows again

I still get the “[HttpClient] HTTP/2.0 (0.2s) 404 response from GET https://me.plexapp.com/” message in log, which is the only line that could indicate that something goes wrong (at least to my eyes)

I am using PMS in a docker container on unraid, also a restart did not help.

Are you still using the old, deprecated metadata agents?

https://support.plex.tv/articles/migrating-a-tv-library-to-use-the-new-plex-tv-series-agent-scanner/

https://support.plex.tv/articles/upgrading-a-movie-library-to-the-use-the-new-plex-movie-agent/

I have several movie and series libraries with the “new” Plex Movie Agent and only one series library using the old TVDB agent.
The issue happens on both new and old agents. Does the one with the old agent somehow affect the others?
I am hesitating on upgrading the series one because there are a lot of custom posters which I fear losing, but if it solves the issue I would upgrade

Unlikely.

Probably not.

As a workaround, Refresh Metadata after you have decided which poster to keep.

I have updated to 1.26.1.5798 Public today and the issue seems to be resolved, I can switch around posters and backgrounds fine again

Thanks for you help @OttoKerner @BigWheel !

Can you also confirm your issue is solved @Ghosty6464 ?
