Show unaired episodes

Server Version#: 1.40.2.8395
Player Version#: 4.125.1

I just switched from emby to plex. In emby, episodes not aired yet would appear in list like all other episodes but they would say “unaired”. How can I see this in plex?

Also emby would show episodes with no files, marked as “missing”. How can I see these in plex?

These do not exist in Plex.

You can add your vote to this feature suggestion (from 2014) but there is no guarantee it will get implemented.

Plex’s Watchlist section could have something that works, albeit not as well. Once you add your TV show to watchlist, this section populates with full details of episodes including unaired episodes. There’s a list called “coming soon” which shows chronologically upcoming episodes and movies from your watchlist.

It’s crude compared to what Emby does, but it may do for now.

I have had the missing/unaired feature in emby for the past 8 years or so. It allowed me to see all episodes of a season in the season list. I cannot live without that feature now.

I didn’t mention it but emby changed a while ago to work as Plex does. I reverted the emby version to restore the feature. So now I can’t upgrade emby.

This is actually the reason I tried plex. So now I find that both have the missing feature and I am stuck using the old version of emby forever. Oh well …

You can check out JellyFin, which was forked from Emby a few years back (before they made some changes to the license). That has the option in your profile setting and should do what you want as long as you enable that option under the library settings for metadata.

You can check out JellyFin

Is jellyfin mature software now? When googling it I got the impression users thought it was buggy. In any case I won’t need to switch until my old version of emby has problems, or if Jellyfin features leave my emby version behind.

Honestly cannot say as I really only have Emby and JellyFin setup on my server as backups in case Plex does something that makes me want to stop using it. Since I point to the same libraries, they stay up to date on all 3 applications but I hardly ever use them.

I know for some people, depending on how you use the software, they have said JellyFin fits their needs but for some others it is missing/does not do certain things as well. I don’t have any examples as I just remember reading that in various forum posts.

Since you can have all 3 applications running at the same time with no ill effects, you can always set JellyFin up and test it out to see if it works for you. This way you would also have it up and running if the time comes that you do need to jump ship.

It certainly was easy to try plex. The linuxio docker container of Plex installed in minutes. I already had an account with plex which to my surprise was automatically used. I wonder if there is a way to try jellyfin that is also easy.

JellyFin is also available via Docker.
Linuxsever.io also has a Docker container for JellyFin (it’s the one I am currently using).

I was thinking. Have you ever tried Sonarr? I think it has exactly what you’re looking for. Give it a try.
