Show video while fast forwarding/rewinding

Server Version#:4.57.4
Player Version#: Apple TV 4k

Is there a way to have Plex player on Apple TV 4K show the video as it’s fast forwarding / rewinding (the way most streaming players do)?

If you have configured your library to create preview thumbs, you should get to see those while going back/forward on the timeline/progress bar.

I didn’t have this feature set to begin with, but I enabled it earlier today. Is there a way I can force the thumb generation, either for the entire library or on a file by file basis?

Sure if you want massive amounts of space taken up on your hard drive

That’s why I was asking if I could do it on a file by file basis. Is there a way to do that?

Many people do.
I do.

An ‘Analysis’ will begin the generation process for everything you ‘Analyze’.

Note:
If you do the entire Library at once - that could take a while… days, weeks, months? Hard to say.

I’d do a few you’re going to watch - then set Plex to generate when Media is added - and during Scheduled Maintenance. Let Plex do it until it’s done, over a couple of hours every day.

… and since we’ve already determined that Video Preview Thumbs take up space - it’s a good idea to house the database on a drive with - ample free space.

In my opinion it’s a hugely valuable feature and worth the space. There are mechanisms available to reduce the amount of space required by the thumbnails.

When SettingsLibraryGenerate video preview thumbnails is set to as a scheduled task and when media is added, analyzing an individual media item will trigger thumbnail generation for just that item.

If you only want to create thumbnails for individual items, you can temporarily set it that way, Analyze an item, watch for it to begin, and then set it back to never.

Unfortunately - I got the VPT Monkey On My Back, Man…
I can’t kick the habit - nor can I watch TV without it now.

lol
