I have TV shows that contain 2 versions, a 4K one and a 1080p one. When loading new episodes, some of them will remain merged (as expected) whilst others will split into two.
I’ve checked the metadata for the now split shows (in this case the expanse) and the metadata is the same down to episodes level so why is plex un-merging them when I want them to remain as one single show with version selection?
I have two folders: TV and TV - 4K
Both these folders have been added to a plex library called “TV”.
“His Dark Materials” as an example has no issues adding new episodes, both 1080p and 4K without un-merging. “The Expanse” un-merges every time new episodes are added.
I’ve tried recreating the library again. Removed both folders from Plex and re-added them. The same issue is still occurring but only with certain shows (as before). I can’t for the life of me understand why though. Most of my shows group correctly under one show with different qualities for each episode as expected.
However a few decided that they will stand separate. Even when I merge them manually, the moment a new episode gets added, this show will then again un-merge. I’ve tried un-matching both shows and re-matching and then they re-merge to then repeat this cycle again when a new episode gets added.
I’d really like to crack this if someone is willing to help me.
OK so after a bit of digging I finally found the issue. I thought I was using the same naming schema for all my shows however some of them were quite old and therfore didn’t have “year” against their folder name.
So plex, despite identifying and attributing the same metadata to all of them, every time a new episode was added it would create two different shows.
