I have “The X-Files” in my TV Shows library. I also had a second show called “The X-Files (DVD Special Features)” for the extras from the DVDs. Two separate show folders in the Plex folder on my computer and two separate shows in Plex, I’ve had these separate for years with no problems. Now today I removed some of the extras from the various season folders.
After doing so the numbering was adjusted in Windows folder so everything was in order. I then updated my TV Shows library in order to scan and recognize the missing files so I could empty the trash and remove them. However Plex is behaving stupidly! It decided to WRONGLY MERGE both shows together, mixing in the extras from a separate show folder with the actual episodes in the main show folder. No matter what I do I can’t get it to separate them any longer.
Why is this happening? I had to drag the secondary show with the extras out of my TV shows folder in Windows in order to get the main show back to normal, and after doing that it screwed up all of my posters!
Why has Plex suddenly gone retarded and can’t recognize separate shows anymore? I still have secondary show folders s for other DVD features and they are just fine still separated. It appears some idiot made changes to the way Plex scans content forcing a merge. I want this fixed!
Shows sometimes air “specials” or other content that isn’t part of the standard season. “Specials” episodes are always part of season zero (i.e. season number “00”) and should be placed inside a folder named either Season 00 or Specials.
Where you specify the correct episode numbers. If you’re unsure whether a particular episode is a Special or not, check the episode on TheTVDB and name it as you see it there.
If an “episode” you have doesn’t appear in TheTVDB (e.g. DVD Specials or goof reel), place this content in the Season 00 or Specials folder named using s00eYY using a false “YY” number (e.g.: Heroes s00e99). The show will be available to play in a Plex App but won’t have any special metadata gathered, such as a summary.
Yes I did create a second show folder. I have “The X-Files” as a show folder, inside of that are the season folders with all of the episodes.
I created another show folder for “The X-Files (DVD Special Features)” and inside that separate show folder I have the extras broken down into season folders based on which season they came from.
I’ve had it like this for years, I still have it like this for other TV shows. I manually input the titles and artwork for the “(DVD Special Features)” shows. It works! Or at least it did work until I removed some extras and then updated the library to remove them.
After I update the library “The X-Files (DVD Special Features)” disappeared from the TV shows library and all of the files were added to the season folders in “The X-Files” show folder.
I did not tell it to merge two different shows into one, and that’s exactly what it did. Again, I want to know why this happened for The X-Files but not for my other shows where I have a separate show for their extras.
Who gave Plex the right to merge two of my shows into one without my permission?
I’ve managed to correct this issue by creating a second TV Show library and putting my extras in there so now it displays properly.
It is utterly pathetic that Plex has been altered in a way in which it can’t recognize a separate show but instead continues to merge DVD extras with the actual show and it’s episodes.
I have no faith Plex even cares about this enough to correct it. All I know is this didn’t used to be the case and now it is.
Having to create a separate library for DVD extras because you can’t put them in the normal TV show library with the actual show is a joke!
Maybe Plex should spend less time adding useless features and fix basic problems like this, but I won’t hold my breath.
The way I was doing it worked perfectly well before. Plex is forcing a merge between extras and episodes making them ONE show even though they are TWO separate show folders in my TV Shows folder in Windows. Why should I have to follow those ‘recommended practices’ when a forced merge shouldn’t be occurring in the first place?
It absolutely IS PLEX’S FAULT because PLEX is the one that altered something in an update that forces a merge! It did NOT used to do this! This merge is a mistake CREATED by PLEX and they are ABSOLUTELY responsible.
The fact that someone is actually letting Plex off the hook for this is pretty ridiculous!
