I am a LONG time user of Plex. I am also a long time subscriber. Plex is the most important and useful entertainment software I use, and I have had very few problems with it.
The only thing missing for my family use is a shuffle all music option.
We have an extensive library of over 8,000 songs gathered since the advent of MP3 compression, our favorites, albums for the kids etc. We also have a house wide speaker system, and listen to music more than we watch TV. When we are puttering around the house or playing cards or board games,it would be nice to hit all music and then shuffle, or shuffle all, and just let the music go where it may.
For many years I have requested this, and it just seems to fade into the background as a request. Will there ever be the option to shuffle all music?
Which Plex client are you using? I can shuffle my library just fine.
If your client has no Shuffle button, maybe it has a shuffle button for playlists? If so, create a smart playlist by goint into your music library in Plex Web and then immediately click on ‘Add to Playlist’ on the left side. (yes, without clicking on any items and without putting anything in the search bar.)
You can then name the playlist ‘All music’ or similar and use this instead on your client.
Unfortunately I don’t have experience with either client.
But I just got confirmation that the Roku client supports playlists.
And according to the PS subforum the PS3 app does so too (at least for music).
So you should be able to at least use my workaround on both devices.
I presume you are using the proper plex client on these devices and not some generic DLNA client?
I can confirm that the Plex for Roku app does have a ‘shuffle all’ button for music.
Open your music library, select Browse All. In the left sidebar you should find Play and Shuffle buttons. If you shuffle from the Browse All level, you will shuffle your entire library.
I am using the official apps. Thank you for all the assistance, I was confused as I am accustomed to a simple shortcut that says “Shuffle All Music”. I have fallen victim to the “I just want a button to push” mentality.
