When watching a TV show on shuffle, sometimes it skips to a 2 part episode. I almost always skip it because I won't be seeing both parts. I'm sure for most people it's never a problem, but for some of us that do watch shows on shuffle (Always Sunny!) it'd be helpful.
Our Chromecast should support this setup, but the Android app does not (currently).
Thanks for the tip, I don't think it's exactly what I'm looking for though. It seems to be about single episodes, where the file just happens to be split in two.
The episodes (and file names) I want it to work it, don't have the same s01eXX number.
So instead of :
Heroes - s01e01-pt1.avi
Heroes - s01e01-pt2.avi
I've got what actually two separate episodes (as listed on epguides.com and/or thetvdb.com) with a "to be continued" storyline:
Changing the episode number to be the same number screws up the metadata.
And actually I had just changed my file names to try stacking them in Plex. Because Plex is not the only way I browse my files I wouldn't have been happy having them named that way anyway. Normally they're named this way:
Technically that's how they're named on epguides.com and not thetvdb.com but I think it looks cleaner to reiterate the "The.High.School.Reunion.Part.2" title in s07e13. And they show up fine (as two separate episodes on Plex).

You could use a tool like mkvToolnix to combine them into one file named: Its.Always.Sunny.In.Philadelphia.s07e12e13.The.High.School.Reunion Parts 1 and 2.mkv
Then they would play together since they are one file although you end up with closing and opening credits in the middle so it isn't ideal. I suppose you could edit the combined file but one quickly approaches a level of diminishing returns.

That's a good idea, and actually with mkvmerge it's also very easy to split/cut a single file into multiple parts at a given timestamp. Therefore I could cut the ending credits out of the first part entirely before I merge them in to one file. Still might mess up the Plex metadata a little but but as long as it registers as the first part/episode not a big deal.
