Sidecar files to keep media metadata if a file is renamed or moved.

Hi guys,

I would love the ability for Plex to remember the metadata I have painstakingly entered for pictures and home movies, should I decide to rename or move the file(s).

With the use of collections and tags Plex beautifully displays and organises my media, but as my library grows with more family pictures, events, etc, I like the folder structure and file names to be just as organised, and to evolve by what makes sense to me. However if I have already added metadata and then decide to move the file, the Plex scanner will treat this file as brand new and no metadata would be kept.

If however there was an option to turn on sidecar files for a library, that runs as a Scheduled Task. Each media file could have its own sidecar file containg the files immediate metadata…

If I then choose to move the file, I simply move the original file and the sicecar file togeather. If I rename the file I rename the sidecar file too.

The scanner could then have an addtional option to enable “Sidecar Metadata” similar to Local Media Assets.

Thank you for your consideration!
