simonjhogan's PLEX Client for LG Smart TV (webOS)

How did the app go through such a lenghtly approval process and finally get approved with such a major bug?

Until the subtitle bugs are fixed the app is pretty much useless to me.

Any idea when you will have this issue resolved?

Thanks.

No this is a tv issue not application ... For now I would suggest you use transcoding ...

App bought, and the User Interface is beautiful in dimensions, every placeholder is just of the right size, not like the test app i compiled in august. Yes, it's true, it's not full HD, it's not so sharp as it looked in the test app, but it's much more coach-friendly, good job, I guess in the future it could be upscaled.

The bug with subtitles (embedded ones, external srt work perfectly) is annoying for any video content with embedded subs, unfortunately at the time of WD Tv Live I reencoded my entire collection with embedded subs..... argh!

No doubt it will be solved, as mediatic pressur on the bug is raising constantly!!

It woul really be nice to have a toggle showing, as on the Android client, if files are being transcoded or direct streamed or direct played.

It would be nice as well to have the possibility to switch "recently added" panel on and off.

Another minor bug that interrupts the flow of the experience is the fact that tv shows back music only plays in the "root" of the tv series, but is shut off when entering the "season folder". I compared to web Client and Android client and there the music is played fluently in and out of "folders".

Excellent Job so far, ad majora!!

Sorry, I am new to using Plex and it's a brand new tv, so I am not 100% what you mean. Is "transcoding" a setting in my TV, a setting Plex...or a setting in your app?

To all webos users sorry for the subtitles issue you are experiencing … I don’t have a webos TV to test on so it is difficult to test … I am perplexed as to what lg’s qa team did regarding testing on webos … Can someone please post a video of the issue

At this point can someone confirm wether transcoding had the same issue?

Lg do state for nc4 devices (pre webos) that integrated subtitles aren’t supported but not sure about webos devices.

The application only controls wether subtitles are on or off, the TV handles everything else …

I think Transcoding is the only sure fire way to have subtitles (integrated Or desperate) work as expected.

I will continue to try to find a solution …

Cheers

Simon

In the app under options select the transcoding option.

I'll be able to assist shortly. In a couple of hours.

My wife has taken over the TV to watch the US Open Tennis tournamet. :) I will record a video of the subtitle issue and post it for you as soon as she is done.

At present I believe this is a TV/webOS issue which I hope LG looks into ...

Not much point at present - unless the option is selected under options to use transcoding everything is direct play. But maybe in the future

It would be nice as well to have the possibility to switch "recently added" panel on and off.

Might consider the recently added panel is basically the same as the official  PLEX for Home Theater client which this is based off.

I compared to web Client and Android client and there the music is played fluently in and out of "folders".

Maybe in the future ... not so much a bug as just the way I designed it ...

Thanks

I had a brief look through the app last night and was impressed with what I saw so far. I also had the image with the subtitles though, is there no possible way to disable them by default? I still won't use Plex as my main player until I can disable subtitles as I find them too irritating.

Another cool thing which someone mentioned earlier would be HD images for the plex stock screens -- might as well take advantage of the TV awesome picture ^^

All so I have done some searching and it appears the subtitle issue with webOS and PLEX is more wide spread then just the application ... has anyone tried the DLNA player - what happens when using this?

Hi crahsHouse,

i have been using the LG appstore for Webos for months now, i don't understan that you can't see it.

i just installed the LG app from the UK store. I too live in the Netherlands which was not included in the LG list.

I had to make a second LG account, switcht to UK on the TV (agreed on a lot of screens) and logged in with that.

Well I bought the app and managed to do it like you told, but the new apps are UK orientated. I cannot remove the today app next to the home tile and the TV-channels are all UK ones. So isn't the most ideal setup.

Hi crashHouse, Just turn back to the dutch account and keep using Plex in this setting. Occasionally you can login to the Uk account and check if there is an update.

In the app under options select the transcoding option.

This worked for disabling the subtitles on my LG 49UB8500.

Hi Everyone,

just a heads up I have to change the application name and icon (requested by Plex.inc) for legal reasons ...

This change will occur sometime soon ... I will keep you informed

Cheers,

Simon

Strangely, the WebOS app causes my Plex Server to crash without any errors etc in the log. Haven't had much time to get those videos for you either, sorry Simon. Won't be long.

So the app will be there when I change back to Dutch settings? Will try tonight.

Hi Simon,

Great Job on getting the app approved and on LG now.

Just wondering when i will be able to used shared Servers is this a feature that will be developed into the app?

If so is there any approximate date?

Thanks

Again Great App purchased :)

Yes, yes! After reverting to the Dutch settings the app is still available and works like it should. There is just one issue and the picture quality when HLS transcoding is turned on, is worse than turned off. I use a i3 4Gb hackintosh as a (Plex) server, so must be powerful enough I guess.

HI Simon,

a few more things:

- the clock  has a 24 hour options but it does'nt work

- the app will not log to server if we require local authentication, which in turn is unfortunately needed to not mess up view count by the various users...

- there is no access to myplex, therefore no possible access to shared servers etc

- when I watch something on the Tv it apparently adjourns the view count for the main user, while the others (viewing the collection as a shared library even if on local network) remains unchanged, which is basically fine, for now, but it does not allow to fine grain the vew count of what is being watched on main screen
