Bought and am trying it out. With the limited trial so far I’m finding BluRay rips (of the h264/ DTSHDMA in MKV container variety), even when I set the bitrate to unlimited I’m getting both video and audio (to AAC) transcoded.
Is this simply an issue of the Plex Media Server profile not updated to include the ATV?
look and feel I’m guessing, I’m sure the plex app will be very similar to the new plex media player,

The Apple TV is not capable of Direct Playing DTS audio, so that’s expected to be transcoded. (If however, you’re not getting surround sound at all then see “Other Issues” 1 here: http://simplex.video/troubleshooting/ )
Unfortunately there’s a variety of reasons video could be transcoding. Sometimes weird profile H264 videos won’t direct play, if you enable subtitles they need to be burnt into the video right now (requiring transcoding). Plex also sometimes plays a bit funnily with the “Unlimited” setting, try setting to 20Mbps and see if it still transcodes.

Hard to say, I haven’t used or seen Plex’s app. I’m providing an alternative, designed how I like. Feel free to wait until both are available and see which you like, or if you’re happy with Plex’s app.

This doesn’t apply to video files with muxed soft subtitles, I hope.

Looks really good, it will be interesting to see how this compares to the official app, it’s nice to have the choice, thanks for the hard work.

Right. I expected a transcode for the audio, just that I guess I expected it to transcode to DD. I also didn’t realise I needed to manually enable DD in both the device and in the plex server.
Interestingly after I did that, and played the same videos I get surround sound and video is no longer being transcoded.
Anyway I’m pretty happy with your app and look forward to see how it develops. Hopefully apple opens the search api soon.

If you don’t mind me asking, are you using TVML/TVJS or UIKit for this?
Can we delete media from this app if allowed on the server side?

To be fair, I reached out a while ago and suggested that a line be dropped with a resume 
Ok, it must be that I’m late and tired. I bought the app (so excited!) and it sees my local server no problem. I select my TV Show section. I select all TV Shows. And nothing happens. I’m just sitting at the interface where you choose what you want to see from TV Shows. Swiping left and right, no effect. Clicking play, no effect. WHAT do I have to do to actually access them?? 
Yep, its probably so obvious I’m missing it, but all I get is the slow scrolling posters and no way to actually get to them. If I go to the main page and scroll through “on deck” I can get to a show, but clicking to select doesn’t do anything either. I’m so close and yet so far, please help!!!
EDIT - I CAN play a movie from on deck or recently added, but TV Shows are a no go from there and everything is a no-go from within its sections.

Same issue here, can play from deck but cannot go into the sections
