I’m looking at adding more home screen customisation options.

I’m doing my absolute best, and have no desire to rip anyone off. I can tell you for sure there are a lot of satisfied users but you are hearing from them less (although I do appreciate all the kind words from those I have heard from).
I am definitely not saying you’re ripping anyone off and I know you have been frantically on here helping individuals and that’s why I want to install it when I get the opportunity to sit down and have a good go at it tomorrow morning. What I was saying is the one man show is difficult and applaud you, however, I believe a “free opening weekend” or something wouldn’t have been a bad idea.
I’m not attacking, I’m giving my opinion on how this could have been implemented in a better way. I am overall trying to support you and help you along with people maybe giving more specifics on their current setups, etc. PMing doesn’t solve problems for people reading the forum. If you solve issues on the forum then you could possibly solve issues for people without needing to take your time PMing everyone. Daunting task for a single dev.
Just my suggestions as a developer myself. Once I’m up and running I will get on this forum and give detailed info on my issues if any. Good luck.
No issues here, first app I installed and worked perfectly except signing in with a pin code, simplex.video/pin did nothing but roll adverts for plex on my iPad. Otherwise, love it, thank you for making it!
If you still searching for beta tester, I am in.
Thanks

I understand everything your saying, and I can see where you’re coming from but I’m going to have to disagree on the free opening weekend. If you see the sales graph for the life of any App Store app 80% (or more) of the sales happen in the first few days. If I’d had to do a free opening weekend then Simple X would simply not exist because I could never make enough money to justify the time spent on it. It’s already touch and go on being a worthwhile project with that 80%. I know that sounds harsh, but it’s the reality for an indie developer on the App Store.
In principal I’d love to do a free opening weekend, in principal I’d love to give the app away for free forever and never feel guilty when the app doesn’t work for someone!
As I’ve said, I’m more than happy for anyone who’s disappointed in the app to just request a refund from Apple. I genuinely don’t want the money of anyone who’s unhappy.
I do respect your opinion and can totally understand where you’re coming from.
In a perfect world I’d love to have had more beta testers, and been able to get the fixes I’ve already written out immediately!

This is true, I probably haven’t been public enough with solutions. The problem with posting in public is that I often need to ask info about their server that I don’t want them to post in a public forum so I would end up moving the conversation private half way through.
Anyway, I should be mentioning more often that there is a support document here that lists possible solutions: http://simplex.video/troubleshooting/
The main problem people are experiencing is that sometimes network configurations result in Plex’s GDM discovery (how Plex finds local servers) failing and their router configuration is preventing them from accessing their local server through their remote IP address. 90% of this could be solved with the manual address entry option, but a crash bug has left that option completely unavailable until Apple approves the 1.0.1 update.
On top of this I’ve now written code to retrieve local server addresses from Plex’s servers, which should mean most of those users won’t need to use the manual address entry option - however this is going to have to wait for a 1.0.2 update (unless Apple reject 1.0.1 - then I’ll cram it in there).

To be fair - my stats suggest the vast majority of people aren’t having issues, but you’re always going to hear from the people who are.
Just wanted to say I’m delighted with the app, and haven’t experienced any significant issues. The only two that come to mind are the lack of compatibility with Plex secure mode and the “On Deck” tile taking you to the home screen.
If not for this app I would be returning my Apple TV 4, since I rarely rent or buy any content from Apple and the features they’ve provided Home Sharing users are atrocious (largely unchanged since their intro 8 years ago.)
Fantastic job on this app, and thanks for being so attentive to user feedback. Not sure how sustainable that is, but it certainly shows you stand behind your work. At $3 it’s a bargain. I’d have happily paid $20 for this thing.

Great app! Really love how native it feels.Would it be possible to add the choice of using ‘Recently Added’ instead of ‘On Deck’ to the Apple TV home screen?
I use it much more as it shows me when I’ve got something new to watch.
Another vote for the option to replace “On Deck” with “Recently Added” or other options.
I have another feature request, though this one may be more appropriate for Apple than for you… I would love to be able to reverse the touchpad navigation direction so that the behavior matches that on iOS and OS X. In other words, swiping up should drag the screen content down, so it feels like you’re actually dragging the on screen content directly, instead of manipulating some imaginary scroll bar.
Can’t believe Apple set it this way, as it contradicts the interaction model on every other device and application they make.
@Stevenson-Price This must be the best $3.00 I’ve ever spent on the App Store. Im running Plex Server on a Seagate Personal Cloud NAS & I’ve not experienced any playback issues.

Sorry, definitely can’t do that one - you’ll need Apple to sort that out for you!
I normally don’t write reviews or any comments on apps, but this time I wanted to take the time to thank the developer and let everyone know how good this app is. I got it day 1 with my new apple tv and it’s worth it’s price so I don’t see why others will ask for it to be free when obviously a massive amount of work has been done to make it work as good as it does.
Anyway, once again, my respects to the developer and big thanks for a well developed app.
First evening was great! Only trouble I had was when I tried to enable subs, but expected as much as official plex clients have the same trouble. Movie won’t start as the NAS will try to transcode.
Keep up the great work and if you find a way to circumvent transcode for subs I’ll come to Scotland and kiss you
Best 3 bucks I could have spent tonight!
I’m looking forward to being able to use this when my device finally gets delivered!
Just saw a tweet from Plex stating official app has been submitted. Can’t wait to try out both of these apps. Now just need my Apple TV to get here already.
Tried this one every way and couldn’t get it to connect to my plex server
Hi, was able to log into my local server ok and my content is being displayed. When I select any show to play I receive an error “an error has occurred loading this content”. Have reviewed your troubleshooting guide and no luck. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Works great, funny that people are bitching over the $2.99 price tag but spending $149+ to get a apple TV
Found another bug… SimpleX isn’t enforcing content rating restrictions.

Peoples reaction to software pricing these days is weird.
Is it possible to force Direct Play instead of Transcoding. When I first used the app it used Direct Play, but after updating to Plex Server 0.9.12.18 I can’t get it work. Transcoding = Bad Quality (for my setup).
I decided it was worth $2.99 to disconnect my POS smart tv from the internet forever until Plex gets in gear.
The app looks nice and I really appreciate that you took the time to implement a PIN system for hooking up Plex. I wasn’t able to get it to work for me at first in Chrome but I tried it in Firefox and it seemed to go through.
The movies and the tv show sections seem empty to me, but search and the home screen work. It’s a little rough around the edges but it’s way better than using my Smart TV. I’m afraid that wasn’t a very high bar though. I’ll def get my $2.99 worth of use out of it. I hope you can come up with something that’ll keep the app alive for you after the official plex app comes out.
