Simple X - A Native 3rd Party Plex Client for the new Apple TV (4th Gen)

I’m also having the No Plex servers found issue. When I signed in via IP the app now crashes on launch.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to say but you have to change “Secure connections” to “Preferred”.
And adding PS by IP is apparently broken.

Stevenson - first of all - the app is flawless and works perfectly on my new AppleTV being served by my Synology NAS running PMS. Question/enhancement request: would it be possible to add support for channels? Please and thank you!

Thanks for the kind words! I’m looking into Channel support for a future update.

Bought it today. Doesn’t work at all. Staring at a white screen.

Hello,

I too get a blank screen on launch.

Keiran

Sorry about that, messaged you both to see if I can help.

I found out I had to reboot the apple tv once I tried to start a movie or tv show it would just sit there. after rebooting, they played just perfect. Thanks for such a great app!

Ok i finally managed to make it work and the interface is awsome, but for some reason the quality of the direct stream is far worse from what i get with the unofficial plex app that run on the same 4k samsung tv i use. I have run many test on different movies and the plex app of the samsung store gives much better quality. Is there something i am missing?

Great app! Really love how native it feels.

Would it be possible to add the choice of using ‘Recently Added’ instead of ‘On Deck’ to the Apple TV home screen?

I use it much more as it shows me when I’ve got something new to watch.

One feature request. I’d kind of like some kind of night theme for the interface. That standard light grey I’m not a fan of. Wish the ATV had a night theme os wide but like that will ever happen.

I’m looking through the forum, and I can’t seem to find a fix for what other people are experiencing as well. I’m logging into Plex, and I’m adding a manual address using my computer name (not the IP) with the port. It just says my media server cannot be found. There something I need to do on the plus side of things? It works just fine with any other device in my house.

I’m having the same issue (white screen.) What are my troubleshooting options? Also, is there a way to force-quit on tvOS?

Double tap the home button to bring up the list of running apps then swipe up on the app to quit it.

Nice app! Unfortunately it hangs often. When trying to play some videos the app just shows "loading xy (episode title) and nothing it happening. Have to kill the app to be able to try another video.

EDIT: changed Apple TV language back to English, seems to work better now.

Bought the App after finding about it through this thread, just wanted to say it’s great and works superbly for me, tried a variety of Movies & TV Shows, both with and without subs and they all play great, along with a very nice UI, this has been moved to the top bar on my ATV4

Thanks for creating this @Stevenson-Price, much appreciated.

Just downloaded your app, everything opens fine but the issues I’m having are with the video and audio resolution. The audio sounds like the cassette tape when they were fast forwarded or rewinded back in the day. I can mess around with the video settings and see what works but for now I don’t know what to do about audio.

Also multiple times it gets stuck at loading and doesn’t open the page/ video file.

I can use Siri to fast forward, rewind and the “what did he just say” feature while streaming a video within your app… that’s cool!

@Stevenson-Price When i click on an ondeck item from the home screen it only takes me to the plex app home screen and not the ondeck item’s pre play screen. Is this by design?

It’s awesome that we have this option instead of not having an option but this seems to be full of bugs and many users are having issues. I wonder if they fall under the same circumstances/setups or something the dev is unable to test. This is the problem with a single developer, having beta testers would be great but nobody had that access (not many at least). I give the dev serious props for getting the app out but to charge $3 US for the app that’s this buggy isn’t acceptable. Should have had it free for opening weekend and a pot of coffee and the forums open to monitor issues to fix then charge when things are fixed by Monday for minor issues or next weekend for major ones after re-submission.

Just my opinion. I would love to hear form the white screen people about their specific setups to see if the issues are close to the same.

What are you using as a server? (Windows, Mac OS X, NAS, etc…)

Any other info would be good as well.

Good luck to the dev, I support small shops but to charge money to try and grab the impatient people is very opportunistic if your app isn’t working very well.

Let’s pull together and get him details so he can make this app right people. I’ll be setting up my ATV tomorrow morning (Pacific time) and giving things a go in order to help if I can despite the price in order to help, I definitely don’t agree though.

This is a bug, unfortunately Apple changed something in the final build of tvOS that broke this. I’ve fixed it and it’ll be in the update after the one in review.

To be fair - my stats suggest the vast majority of people aren’t having issues, but you’re always going to hear from the people who are.

In terms of beta testers, Apple is at fault for this one - I filled literally every internal slot with beta testers, none of whom had these problems. But Apple didn’t open external testing until the store was already out, so I was very limited in tester numbers.

I’ve been personally messaging everyone who’s having problems and doing my best to help them out, I’ve also tried to make it clear that anyone who feels the app isn’t working how they’d like is more than welcome to request a refund from Apple - if the app isn’t working how you’d like I don’t want your money.

In a perfect world I could get out the two updates I’ve already written which fix 90% of the problems right now. But sadly the first one is still sitting in review.

I’m doing my absolute best, and have no desire to rip anyone off. I can tell you for sure there are a lot of satisfied users but you are hearing from them less (although I do appreciate all the kind words from those I have heard from).
