Skip AND keep commercials!?

It is working on my Android phone.

The items are processed as part of scheduled tasks. It might take a while to analyse them all, but I have items as far back as January which now display the option to skip ads

Interesting, thank you for the reply! So everything should eventually scan, even in libraries that are not part of the Plex DVR, but only as long as you have option checked, and wait for scheduled tasks?

One reason I ask is because newly files don’t seem to scan for commercials, but it’s possible those need to wait for scheduled tasks, too. I’m not 100% sure of the logistics.

I appreciate the insight!

I apologize for popping this thread back up, but I haven’t found this to be the case so far. I have a library with multiple folders: One folder with recordings from a non-Plex DVR system (NextPVR), and another folder with recordings from Plex. The whole library has the option checked for ā€œEnable ad detectionā€, but the only recordings that get scanned for ads are the ones recorded by Plex. The other libraries don’t seem to scan, even on a schedule. It’s been a week since I enabled that option.

These libraries all contain TS files, mostly H264 but a few MPEG2. Doesn’t seem to matter, though.

Is this the desired behavior? I’d love to be able to scan non-Plex recordings, but I can’t seem to make it work. It’s weird to have the option available on a library, but not being applied to the files.

l agree, I wouldlove for my channelsDVR recordings to get commercial markings

Hmm, I’ll need to follow up on this internally, but I don’t believe that should be the case, though all of my recordings are from Plex

Awesome, thank you. I’d just use Plex’s built-in DVR services, but NextPVR has additional flexibility.

Any chance you’ve had time to check into this? Thank you!

No news as yet, sorry

Is this the option that’s enabled in today’s beta PMS update?

* (DVR) New Library option added to include all files during commercial detection (#12024).

If so, awesome. I do see the new drop-down option, but so far when I’ve enabled it and tried to analyze files, it doesn’t seem to do anything. Do you know if it should be working, and if there’s any trick to it?

This appears to work as a scheduled task in the latest beta.

Can we get this to trigger as new media are added rather than as scheduled task?

I wish there was a way to set the playback to autoskip the commercials without having to press the SKIP button

I’m not having any luck getting commercial markings added to old recordings either. Most of mine are TiVo recordings, and I haven’t found any yet that get the markings.

You need to have DVR setup in Plex, and have detect commercials and mark for skip enabled in the DVR settings

LOL, yes, I know that. I do have it set up correctly, but its not marking any Tivo recordings. Earlier in this thread you mentioned you were going to check with the devs about marking recordings from other DVRs. Did you find anything out? Any fix coming?

As long as you’re on the current Plex Media Server release (1.21), you should see an option in the advanced library settings to enable it for no items (disabled), or for recorded items or all items. Ensure all items is selected, and then it should process them during the maintenance period overnight, but it can take some time if you have a large number of items.

Again, I know, it’s already set. I’m referring to your post 25 and 28 when you mentioned that you were going to check on the commercial marking for recordings that are from other DVR’s (TiVo, NextPVR, etc.). So far, it hasn’t worked for those of us that have recordings from DVR’s other than Plex. So, have you confirmed that it should work for recordings made outside of Plex?

Yes, I’ve confirmed that it should work for all items in a library when you have that enabled, and have the DVR setup and configured as I mentioned earlier. As this takes place during the maintenance period, it may take a while to process all the recordings if there are a lot of them.

Ok, thanks. I’ll let it run for a week and see if everything gets tagged.

Is the function available in all clients? Its not triggering in either of the Xbox one apps.

I change my maintenance window from 7am to 6am the next day and see if I can trigger the scheduled tasks quicker.
