Skip opening / credits button appears too early

The skip into button should appear when the intro starts, not 5 seconds before, interrupting the opening of the show.

This has been annoying me for a while with skip intro, but now has also started happing at the end of shows with the new skip credits feature.

Might just be my ADHD, but when the skip intro pop up happens, I start to look for the remote, and most of the time, stop paying attention to the last line or 2 of dialogue before the opening starts. I’d rather see/hear a few seconds of the intro as i reach for the remote, than have myself dragged out of the show and back to the real world by a pop-up. and occasionaly having to rewind since i missed what was going on in the show.

And now with the skip credits feature, I’ve had the big final moment of a show shrunk into a tiny window. Kinda sucks when it’s a big reveal or cliff hanger and the impact of the moment is killed by the program I’m using to watch the show.

I’ve turned off detect credits on the server, hopefully that will stop my show from being minimized. I’d rather it not happen at all

in the blog post announcing end credit detection, it says “At Plex, we know that every second counts when it comes to consuming that sweet, sweet content.” I’d rather be able to enjoy every second of my sweet sweet content, and not be pulled out of it a few seconds early by a pop-up.

  • The skip button should appear before the opening/credits start - current way
  • The skip button should appear when (or a couple seconds after) the opening/credits start
  • I don’t care either way

I think the reason the skip intro button appears early, is that most shows probably have a last-minute sting/drum-hit that always plays in the last few seconds of the pre-intro scenes. Since Plex does analysis based on audio, I believe it’s catching these last few seconds as somehow part of the intro itself.

I’d prefer that intro credit analysis could perhaps also analyse the video in the first few seconds of the intro, to avoid such cases. As long as the video is different, then don’t treat that as part of the intro? Hmm, that might break shows that have unique intros but the same theme song…

I guess I will vote for “shrug”. This doesn’t bother me as much as it does you, apparently. I prefer the skip credits to be ASAP, since seeing the same video/audio intro every time when binging gets more annoying to me. Seeing the “skip intro button” allows me to get prepared to click as soon as the important parts of the show are done. I can even do it BEFORE the credits start, during that musical sting part that every episode includes.
