Plexamp has Sweet Fades which is great for people who like that. Personally I’ve never been a huge fan of crossfade, or at least not as aggressively as most clients handle it (including Sweet Fades). However, what I do like about this feature is it cuts out the silence (or near-silence) at the beginning and especially the end of tracks.
What would be great is a separate toggle to only cut out the silence. Honestly I feel the best way to implement this would be to adjust Sweet Fades to have different levels of aggression. Something like:
- Original full flavor
- Low sodium
- Only skip silence (no fade)
- Purist (Off)
Trying to keep with the Plex setting humor labels but hopefully you get the idea. The feature is cool but could be made much better by allowing the user to customize the strength of the fade to their liking, and/or offering a feature adjacent to Sweet Fades but just for skipping silence.
I recognize I’m commenting on an old post, but I need this. I have a decent amount of albums with songs with “secret tracks” at the end after a long period of silence in the middle, and some with just a lot of silence at the end of the track for whatever reason. Please Plex, you can already detect silence reliably, you just need to implement this as an option in addition to Sweet Fades!

I’m going to politely bump this, as I came here to request a feature to either automatically detect (or, with respect to the answer about not wanting to do it automatically at [Feature Request] Skip silence between "Hidden" tracks perhaps a way to manually mark segments in a track to skip) because I have a number of tracks with extensive silence. Having Plex detect sections of tracks with silence during processing, and then offering an option to skip these, per track or globally, would be nice.
IIRC, there’s a feature in iTunes where one can set parts of tracks, beginning and ending, so I used to do that. For tracks with silence in the middle, I would duplicate the track and set the end and start point of each copy appropriately.
So, in summary, that’s all … bump!

Bump!
Please add a skip silent parts feature.
Hidden tracks just make our lives harder. I even volunteer to implement it if you want me to

I don’t know anything about coding so I could be way off here, but…
I read somewhere the recently released Plex API documentation has the ability to set markers
within content with a start
& end
point - I wonder if it could be possible to add ‘silence’ markers to content that players like plexamp could then be programmed to skip?
