Skipping credits on last episode causes TV to freeze

Server Version#: 1.41.0.8992
Player Version#: Plex for LG 5.88.1

If:

  • Auto Play Countdown Time is set to Immediately
  • The episode being watched does not have a following episode
  • The episode being watched has no scenes after the credits (the credits’ end match the episode’s end)

Then skipping the credits (whether automatically or manually) causes the Plex app to “freeze”, preventing the user from navigating back to the menu or even leaving the Plex app.

This is a problem that we detected a few months ago but the original ticket was automatically closed without a resolution.

Bump, this should be a somewhat easy fix given the context provided.

I get this problem too and it’s really annoying. Nothing else to add, just a plus 1 from me.

Same issue here.

Same issue here.

I am also having this issue on Plex for LG, Client Version 5.90.1, Platform Version 9.2.2.

Same problem on LG Web OS TV app. Please fix. Thanks.

Same problem

Same problem but a quick fix is to use the plex phone app to play something else on TV then you can go back to the menu (50% of the time). Using the phone app if the Samsung tv app freezes also plays content on the tv which i find quite weird…

No need for that, the workaround is to set the Auto Play Countdown Time to the next value (5 seconds)

It’s not as good as Immediately but it prevents freezing altogether

Yeh, I saw that but I’m currently only experiencing the issue with movies and I’m watching more tv shows atm (yes i know when i run out of a series it will happen) so its staying on instant for the moment. I’ve only had the feature on for a week so I’m gonna pretend everything is fine until it happens again lol

Just like to add on my plex client I can’t change to 5 secs, I only have automatic and manual. I had only just got the most recent plex client for my old 2016 era samsung by fluke 2 weeks ago when i had to restart the smart hub, this is when I discovered all these new plex pass features in my settings, but alas, seems I’m still a few options behind. Plex devs fix this please! X

I have a similar issue. My work around is to go press down on th remote, select HD or the :speaker_high_volume: icon and change it to something else, then just skip ahead to the end and wait the 5 seconds for the video to exit on its own. It is a huge PITA.

Additional information for Plex support, is that this seems to only happen when you play a single video from you library or, as reported by No_Escape, if it is the last video in the queue. It does not happen when there are more movies/videos in the queue waiting to be played.

In my case, the behavior is that I cannot use the back button on my remote to “back out” instead of hitting stop which requires more remote clicks than necessary. Maybe if you guys bind the back button in the app to “stop” would be a quick/easy fix.

Happening here too.
LG WebOS 4.10.0; LG 50UM7510PSB Plex for LG 5.92.0.

If the show doesn’t have a next episode, it freezes and you can’t do anything. Needs to open another app to be able to get back to Plex.

It has been the same on my LG TV for at least a year, quite possibly longer. Credit skipping was a main reason for me buying a plex pass initially, I soon found out it broke my viewing experience as it just hits me with a black screen (on/with movies, TV series works as advertised).

I then need to Nav to the LG home screen and force close plex to get it to load again, why it cannot just fall back to the plex home screen when there is no following media ‘up next’ is beyond me.

The only way I’ve found to combat this headache is to click into the options at the start of the movie (every single time) and set it to repeat, which begs the question, why is the repeat option not a quick icon in the main overlay with play, skip, subs, resolution etc. Instead of it being two sub-menus in completely stopping the movie in the process?

Plex used to be awesome, the minute my first LG smart-ish TV recommended it for local playback many years ago, I was instantly hooked and it was free, a solid performer.

Now it just seems neglected and half-baked I mean what happened to the play next option for instance basic features when it comes to media playback.

I thought the income generated from forcing the plex pass on those that didn’t have it would be put into development but I’m finding it hard to see any truth in that theory given the only updates seem to be for the server and never the apps. It kind-of feels like a cash grab, or the company is going in a completely different direction from its origins, as in a solid home media solution.

It needs some TLC on all platforms in that regard. It’s such a shame really.
