Sling / m3u / TV Everywhere

I’ve tried to find an answer but what with all the legacy information still published it’s like walking a maze of dead-ends.

I currently use Channels DVR, and while the TV Everywhere function works great the app itself is abysmal.

So I went looking and found all this convoluted crap with plugins and m3u etc etc etc that ends up being a tutorial on how to pirate live tv with Plex. All I want to do is add legal subscribed content, and I’m still dumbfounded that something like Plex doesn’t have the same or better functionality than a raggedy app like Channels DVR.

My question really boils down to is there a documented way to integrate Sling TV with the the live tv OTA guide that’s stable? If not Sling, then another legal provider?

I really don’t want yet another project that needs to be touched every few days. I just want to set something up and watch TV. I don’t mind spending hours up front. I just don’t want a new hobby.

+1 for this question. PlutoTV has M3U access, wondering if that exists for Sling and when Plex might support TV Everywhere?

Have you found an answer? I’m curious as well.

The features of PseudoTV and M3U playlists are at least acknowledge… but no timeline is shared.

If you can manage it, look at creating a custom M3U playlist and using xTeve to load a Tuner spoofer in Plex. Your milage may vary when using Plex, but I’ve managed to get it to play in VLC.

I feel your pain. I’ve gone over to Channels DVR also and have completely abandoned Plex. I run PhiloTV, an HDHomerun tuner, PlutoTV and two security camera feeds through Channels. I’ve recently added PlutoTV through a docker setup. It auto-updates the epg for me. Channels DVR can record & schedule PlutoTV content as well.

Yeah I tossed Plex as well. I’ve had Channels a while, but they have their own problems on the glass.

What I ended up doing was buying a lifetime Emby subscription, and that’s my front end. I keep a Channels server running on a Ras Pi 4 now that does nothing but convert a Quatro, Prime, and TV Everywhere to m3u streams. I connected Emby to that, and Channels provides the TVE service to Emby. Channels can also serve the guide to Emby. The cool thing about running Channels on a Pi, outside of the NAS, is when you’re doing any sort of NAS maintenance the rest of the house can still watch TV using an app like Tivimate. That’s why I moved Channels from Docker to Pi.

Plex? I’m done. They’re not listening, so I’m no longer watching. Yeah there’s a half-baked way to use m3u streams in Plex, but I don’t want my system collapsing over an update down the line. Emby also performs a lot better for my needs, so I’m happy. Good luck!
