Downloads using the Plex app on iPad are slow. Seems to be capped around 10Mbps. Quality profile is set to Original. The same device on the same wifi connecting to the same server using a different client (Infuse) doesn’t exhibit the same problems. This appears to be a problem with the plex app on iPad.
Has any progress been made on identifying and resolving this issue? It’s been a while now. Thanks.
Hope you get some kind of response from the Plex team, some folks have had success in improving download speeds by toggling the “Use Background Download” in Settings/Download.
I can’t say if this was a coincidence or not. But after doing some Googling and trying different network settings to no avail I decided to try setting the option
Transcoder temporary directory
to be the /tmp director on my MacBook. I saw some posts somewhere that indicated that using a ram drive may solve the problem for where the intermediary transcoding files are stored. My libraries sit on an external SSD. I never really assumed this was the problem since it’s supposed to be a solid state drive and I figured USB-C would be fast enough but it was the only change I made. The /tmp directory on my MacBook isn’t a ram drive. It’s just a local SSD. But once I did this downloads from my Plex Media library to my iPad were super fast. I can’t say that it will be the same for everyone but thought I’d share in case it helped someone.
Almost forgot. I’m running
Plex Version 1.41.3.9314
MacOS Sequoia 15.2
