Download to iPhone painfully slow

Server Version#: 4.87.2
Player Version#: IOS 8.11.1

I’m traveling next week so I downloaded a handful of shows from Netflix, it took minutes. There are a few shows on my Plex that I’m watching so thought I’d give that a go also, but so far I have a couple of episodes downloaded and it’s been going for more than 24 hours. The Plex dashboard tells me it’s averaging 3Mb/s, which is ridiculous as I’m on a local network - none of this is over the internet.

I’ve tried different suggestions I’ve found in the forums and on reddit, but none seem to have made any noticeable difference.

  • added (and removed) LAN prefix in Server Settings > LAN Networks
  • unchecked Trust WAN IP as LAN Bandwidth
  • unchecked Enable Relay
  • set Internet upload speed to 2000mbps (I don’t understand this one, but someone on Reddit said it worked for them)
  • set my preferred format to original
  • unchecked HDR Tone mapping
  • checked and unchecked Disable Video stream transcoding
  • on my phone set Video & audio quality and download format to Original

I could have watched all the episodes (on the same phone) in the time it’s taken to download just a portion - streaming from my server has never been a problem, this appears to just be a downloading issue.

I have restarted my Plex server, and restarted my phone, but to no avail.

Is there some way I can speed up these downloads? My next option is to just copy the files directly to my phone and play them in some other type of video player app.

What can I do?

Plex Downloads are not worth the headache as they are very unreliable. I suggest downloading via Infuse which works like a charm. Not an ideal solution, I know, but unfortunately their isn’t any other right now

I use Infuse and thought about it but then came across the following post:
