Slow loading and sometimes errors

Hello,

So for multiple years now I have a horrible plex experience and can’t really use it. I’m using a windows plex player on the same network as my plex server which is hosted on a virtual machine with 4 CPU 2GB of RAM and build on nvme storage.

Plex is globaly slow when I’m clicking on movies or series hosted on my server (like 10 seconds + I feels like the server is waiting for someting basically) and sometimes I even get “an unexpected error has occured”. The main library page is lightning fast, but when opening movies or series in detail everything slows down.
I have tinkered all I could with all kind of configuration but nothing changes.

Sometimes I manage to open a movie or a serie and then everything runs fine.

So before removing Plex definitely and going to something else, I wanted to give it a last try here with you guys to try and find a solution.

I see some dropped connection in the VERBOSE logs, so I kept them because they might be useful.

Here are the logs from the server when the last “an unexpected error occured” screen poped on my plex client after trying to load a serie’s season.

At around 21:24:10 ish I clicked on a season’s serie and about 30 seconds later I get an error.

By the way I checked, during this time the server has a load close to 0, no bandwidth usage and no memory usage, so I’m really wondering what is going on.

Oh yeah small note : IPV6 is disabled on my computer client, and on my linux server and in the plex configuration from my client and I still get some ipv6 mentions in the logs, that doesnt look clean at all…

Oh yeah in case someone wonders, I have already rebuild the Database and Indexes, but that didn’t work.

Did you use DBRepair to defrag & rebuild the DB?

Also How big is the DB file? Is it bloated ?

Yes yes that’s what I meant with my last reply, that didn’t help sadly.

The file is not that big, I got less than 4TB of content indexed into it, nothing plex can’t handle normaly

With 4TB of content indexed, your com.plexapp.plugins.library.db should only be a few hundred MB in size (less than 1GB for certain). Confirm please ?
May I see the full DEBUG logs ZIP file where this happens?

The com.plexapp.plugins.library.db file is 161MB

That being said thanks to you asking that question I figured how to fix my issue.

Basically I had mounted /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/ on a share on my (SSD) NAS because I had not enough room to run a big virtual machine on the local drive of my proxmox where plex is running.

And since there are probably lots of access on the plex databasefile, putting that on a NFS share is far from ideal.

So since I didn’t have any space issues anymore, I moved everything back to a local drive and now stuff goes fast and well.

Plex on NFS is dangerous.

Slow as you’ve found
(MOST IMPORTANT) – No file locking (required for proper DB functioning)
