suggestions?
hello? this is still an issue, tonight I was syncing a playlist, 20 tracks from various albums. Some of these tracks were already synced to the iOS device and it was just a matter of syncing the playlist. I watched it reach 95% then drop down randomly to 67% and sit there and slowly creep up and drop back down, back and forth. It shouldn’t take this long to sync, and it shouldn’t be this big of a pain either.
This is still an issue, this is still a product I payed for and it seems I am getting no response for request for support for things that aren’t working as they should?!
I’d really like it if I could get some assistance resolving this. I provided the logs a week ago.
Is it simply support doesn’t know how to fix this?
there have been a number if issues with the iOS app and its ability to sync. I realize the posts have jumped around a bit in the nature of the exact issue since the original posting, but bottom line is they all boil down to issues with the iOS app syncing and the ability for the iOS app to be usable.
Please advise, I’m getting to the point where I am going to start looking for alternatives and request a refund for this.
Sorry. Holidays had me busy. Can you get me logs for your latest attempt? Both app and PMS logs. Thanks.
I will next time I have to sync something.
see attached - 25 songs, from one album. Format is FLAC.
It took roughly 30-35 minutes to sync this one album. PlexDebugInfo-svtmustangcobra96@gmail.com-5.9.1-16104 (2019-01-10 21.48.07 -0500).zip (13.4 MB)
Plex Media (5.3 MB)
Been almost a week, any updates?
Sorry, missed the ping about the logs. Looking now. To be clear, it was a NIN album you were syncing, right?
Yea, correct NIN
Update? We’ve been doing this back and forth for two months, with long pauses for feed back
How can I get help with this? Can I escalate the support request? Should I just request a refund and look at something else?
The last thing that was suggested was 23 days ago, to check the space on the iOS devicd of which there is ample room.
I’ve provided multiple logs, done e eything requested and there’s no suggestions, no help and no resolution.
If this software was free I wouldn’t care but to pay for it and get this kind of lacking repaonse is beyond frustrating
Sorry. Identifying Sync problems is not easy. I’ve been looking at your logs the last few days and here is what I’ve found. Let me know if I’m wrong on my timings.
I see you initiated the sync job for the NIN album on 1/10/19 around 21:20. 25 tracks. However, it appears that it hadn’t finished syncing a previous job for Metallica. Also, just a few minuted before at 21:15 something happened with your network and your remote access went down. This resulted in any remote connections switching over to use Plex’s Relay server. This connection is limited to 2 Mbps since you have a Plex Pass (1 Mbps if you didn’t). You were already playing a video at this time. S3E1 of the show V. This was basically using up the entire allowed bandwidth for the Relay connection. No other sync jobs could be transferred while this was going on since there was no bandwidth available. This also ended up putting your sync jobs in the background. Your iOS device then appears to go to sleep. Something fixed itself around 21:22 and remote access returned and the relay connection was turned off. This started the downloading of the Metallica album. That finished around 21:30 and then started syncing the NIN album. It had to transcode the files first, then the download, which finishes around 21:47. So in the end, it only took about 17 minutes to transcode and sync the album. Everything looks like it’s working correctly.
If my analysis doesn’t sound right to you. A test you can try is to first make sure you are using a direct connection to your server, and make sure all current syncs are done and nothing is being played by anybody. Then delete and re-sync the NIN album and watch it to see how long it takes to work.
Something to consider. Check your remote access to make sure it doesn’t drop the connection and switch over to using the Relay connection. If you are using UPnP, I would suggest switching to a manual port forward.
Another thing to consider is to review all your sync jobs. Make sure they are not dynamic lists that could change. This will slow down syncing of new items since it does have to review if there are any changes with the existing data.
See comments inline below:
The Metallica album may have failed before. Plex will retry to sync things if there was a problem previously. Syncs are done in order so if there was something else waiting to be synced, that will run before new jobs.
For how to check if you are on a direct connection, that is a bit harder to do now. Previously, the app would tell you right next to the name of the server what type of connection you are on. That isn’t available with the new app, but we are looking into re-adding this. The only way now is to look at the logs or to try and stream something over 2 Mbps and see if you get limited to 2 Mbps.
Sync jobs runs in the background and in series so they can’t be sped up currently. You could have overlapping items from multiple Sync jobs and the current Sync implementation doesn’t handle these well in parallel. We are revamping Sync in the near future so maybe things can be sped up then.
Dynamic sync lists are like dynamic playlists where the items to include are based on a search criteria of filter. These list can change on their own as content is added/removed. For example, I don’t remember what album it was but lets say you wanted the album The Downward Spiral and found it by searching for “Spiral” then hit the Sync button from that results page. This is a Dynamic Sync job for all albums with the word “Spiral” in it, so PMS has to check your entire music library if anything new needs to be added or to see if previously sync items need to be removed. It’s not a big delay to do this, but depending on the size of your music library, it could be something to watch out for. If you just browsed to the artist, then the album, then hit Sync from that page, the list is not dynamic and PMS only needs to check this 1 album ever. It doesn’t care if something changed somewhere else.
