Slow to open Home on Windows player

Server Version#: 1.42.2 (on qnap nas)
Player Version#: 1.112.0.359-0d79a49f and 1.109.0.329-ea562b95

Hi,

When first launching the plex for windows app (1.112.0.359-0d79a49f) the Home page takes 20-30 seconds to open while sitting waiting at the spinner. Then navigating around the player and back to home it is shown instantly.

If I connect via the web to the local address of plex on my qnap the homepage shows instantly so it seems to be an issue with the windows app. If I also try this on another windows machine (running 1.109.0.329-ea562b95), the delay is there as well so it doesn’t seem to be related to this version of the client.

If I look at the logs, the windows app is retrying a connection to loopback (127.0.0.1:32400) for 20-30 seconds.

I’ve checked all the settings and done plenty of searching but I can’t find any information on how to stop it checking pointlessly for the loopback as plex never has been and never will be on 127.0.0.1

I’m sure it didn’t used to do this but I have recently migrated plex from another qnap nas to my current one, I don’t know if this is important, but I thought I’d share it anyway.

I have reinstalled the windows client fully (removed all program files and appdata files), I have not searched and cleaned the registry.

Both the old nas and new nas were running the same versions of plex, the old nas has been formatted so plex isnt running in two places.

Does anyone know what the problem might be or how I can go about speeding the initial load up?

I can provide logs on request.

Thanks in advance,

J

In Windows file explorer, check if you have any old drive letters, which used to point to network file shares. If so, remove them.

I only have drives mapped to my current nas. I’ve removed those, rebooted and tried opening the plex player again and the home page delay is still there. I just tried this on another pc and the issue remained there also.

I’m still testing this to try and find the issue.

If I switch to a library while the Home page spinner is showing (within the 30 seconds timeout) the library is shown without delay so the connection to the plex server has been established correctly.

However, when I switch back to Home, I see the spinner again and have to wait the full 30 seconds for it to timeout and to register that 127.0.0.1:32400 isn’t contactable.

After I let the Home page finally show, when I switch to a library and back to Home, it’s instant as expected.

I’m still unsure as to why the windows plex player is trying to connect to loopback and taking so long to failover but only for the home page and would love some insight/help from someone at plex.

Thanks
