My Plex server is on a Synology DSM 7.1-42661 NAS. When logging onto it using a browser, it works great. However, I have the Plex for Windows app installed on my laptop for maintenance purposes mainly. It was working fine up until the last couple of updates. Now when I start it, it sits there black with a little blue circle cursor for several minutes - maybe it eventually starts, maybe not. Any idea where to look?
Can confirm this bug for several versions now.
It feels like the client tries to do things which are not allowed on the system, trying again and again until running into a timeout and then finally displaying the ui.
Maybe it tries to phone home to report user behaviour or library content or download ads or stuff like that.
Normally a media server software should work without any internet connection at all, except when metadata is fetched.
Doing a bit more investigating, I find that the 1st time I access the app on a given day, it takes 2-3 minutes to open. If I close the app for several minutes then reopen it, it seems to reduce the delay to roughly 1 minute. Closing the reopening immediately, it typically opens immediately. I suspect it is doing some kind of commercial access that takes time. The amount of time might depend on how much change there has be since the last time it was opened…does that make sense?
