Windows client is really slow to launch

Server Version#: Version 1.40.2.8395
Player Version#:Version 1.91.0.129-1cd63c1d

I don’t understood why for a while, without changing anything in plex (server and client) the client under Windows 11 easily takes 30 seconds to 1 minute to open.
I uninstalled, deleted all residual files and reinstalled Plex, but that doesn’t change anything, even without connecting to the account or server. A fresh installation of Plex does not launch in less than 30 seconds.
I have a good internet connection, no problems with other software, no VPN to bother.
Where do you think it could come from?

Often it is looking for old servers which are no longer in existence, but haven’t been removed form your account: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms

thanks for the answer, I removed all old servers, and old clients but it always launch in about 30 seconds. I have tryed to launch Plex with admin right (always in windows11) and it takes less than 10 seconds to be fully available, so it’s better, but why it need to be admin? to check for update?

See if you currently have any media sources pinned to the side bar, which are on an inaccessible server.
Do also check for pinned online media sources, which you may have later disabled in your account.

Do you have a smart collection published on the start page? These can take a long time to compile, if the selection of filters is complex.

It doesn’t need Admin rights. I am running it without Admin. I am using a restricted user account by default.

Never start Plex server or Plex player with admin rights. Doing so might mess up the access permissions in the configuration folder.

If you currently have no local downloads in the player, it is probably easiest to nuke the whole configuration folder (while the player is closed, of course).
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Plex
Afterwards, you’d need to set up the player as if it was brand new.

I just uninstall Plex player, delete all AppData files, reinstall Plex, and without any link to my server or my account, it takes 27 seconds to be usable otherwise it’s a blank screen and Plex not responding.

Is it possible that you have an issue with DNS rebinding protection?
Some routers apply this by default. Some even don’t let you configure or disable it.
If your router doesn’t let you disable the protection for the domain plex.direct, try to use a different DNS server in general. Good candidates are 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8

Do you use a DNS based Internet filter (privoxy, pi-hole etc.)?

I don’t use pi-hole or anything like that, just NordVPN client for windows but it’s not on when i launch Plex.
i’ve tryed without DNS, NordVPN DNS, Google or Cloudflare and it don’t change anything. The problem come from Plex for windows because it is instant on my TV or shield app.

I cannot reproduce. It takes 3 seconds for me to a populated home screen.

Please post a player log file.

I don’t know what log file is needed? especially since when I download the logs, the most recent one is from several hours ago.

I find what happen, but cannot explain why it do this. i have 2 Qnap NAS, one only to save photos and videos but it have nothing to do with plex (i never installed it in this one), and another just to store my movies with Plex in docker.
When the one that have nothing to do with Plex is off, the Windows client take at least 30 seconds to launch, but when the 2 NAS are on, Plex lanch in about 5 secondes .

If you want log file can you tell me witch to post, because there are a lot. (Plex Media Server / com.plexapp.system / Plex Tuner Service / com.plexapp.agents.imdb / Plex Transcoder Statistics / Plex Media Scanner Matcher + a lot with 1 2 3 etc… in their name).

Thanks.

Plex(launch normally).log (90.9 KB)
Plex(long time to launch).log (99.7 KB)

When i have the 2 NAS on, it launch in few seconds, but when i have only the one with Plex in it, it take way more time.

Looking at the logs the time sent waiting is entirely in the Qt framework and not in any of Plex’s code. Unfortunately it doesn’t log anything during this time so it’s a bit of a black box.

The fact that whether one of the NAS boxes is on makes the difference is particularly odd. Do you happen to have a share of this NAS mounted on the computer running the client? Could there be any reason why your computer (and I’m not speaking of the Plex client here) would by trying to access this NAS?

There are indeed shared files from the NAS (which does not have Plex) on the PC. I deleted them and turned off the NAS, now Plex launches in just a few seconds. I don’t understand what Plex wants to get on a device to which it is not attached.

I don’t understand either but that’s a question for the developers of Qt. Perhaps it is iterating mounted file systems or links but I don’t understand why it would want to. Glad that you figured it out.
