Slow "wake-up" between QNAP NAS and MacOS Plex Server?

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488
Player Version#: ANY (Mac Player 3.83.1), AppleTV, Amazon FireStick TV, Xbox One S

I don’t know exactly where to post my question but I have a MacOS Plex Server (running on a i7 MacMini) and my data are on a brand QNAP TS-673 NAS. Both the MacOS Plex Server and the QNAP NAS are on the same switch and both are ethernet wired full gigabit as well. I suspect something about a “sleep mode” in the QNAP for energy saving, however I can’t find any specific settings about “sleep” in my NAS interface… as for the MacOS Plex Server side, I know that there’s no sleep, nor any hard drive sleep (it have SSD anyway), etc.

When the Plex Server is unused for a while, when I try to play a movie (or a TV show) from any of my Plex client (AppleTV, XboxOne, Amazon FireStick or any PC client), the spinning wheel is spinning like forever until I give up, cancel the playback, then try a second time and now it work… so in fact I always have to play my movie twice before they actually play…

It’s a bit annoying, but it not that much of a big deal… but if you have any hint to fix/improve this issue, please let me know

Oh one last thing… before purchasing this large QNAP NAS recently, I was using a VERY OLD “LaCie 5Big Network NAS” (almost 10 years old) and I never had this “wake-up” issue/delay… with the same MacOS Plex Server as well.

Disable Disk standby mode mode on the QNAP

Sorry… I apparently missed this one badly! The thing is my QNAP interface is set in French (Canada) and the translation is actually horrible. There’s no mention of a “disk” in the french GUI so I completely missed it…

What is your personal opinion on that Dane? My QNAP is equipped with higher end Western Digital NAS PRO disk, does it will significantly affect disk longevity?

Personally, Sleep mode = less power usage, but also less HDD life, since powering up has a huge impact on the life of a HDD.

My drives are always online 24/7/365.

And running a mix of WD Reds and HGST in my QNAP’s
