I’m trying to create a smart playlist which has new music in it (i.e. has been added in the last 30 days) does anyone know if this possible?

I don’t think it is. Smart playlists are based solely on your filter selections. Since there is no filter for ‘added in the past 30 days,’ I don’t think there’s a way to do what you want.
No, this unfortunately not possible. Smart playlists can only be added with what is available as ‘Filters’ in the left action bar.
(Available filters do vary with the library view mode. You may want to switch between ‘Artist’, ‘Album’ and ‘Tracks’ to see them all.)
Currently there is only a ‘Decade’ and a ‘Year’ filter available. So you could build a smart filter which only shows albums from the year 2016. But this of course doesn’t take into account when you added these into your library.
