SO FRUSTRATED... locked out and nothing works

Server Version#: current
Player Version#: n/a
I don’t get it… FRESH install. No existing anything. Starting from a FRESH docker-compose file:

services:
plex:
image: linuxserver/plex:latest
container_name: plex
network_mode: host
environment:
- PUID=1029
- PGID=100
- TZ=America/Vancouver
volumes:
- /volume1/docker/plex:/config
- /volume1/data/media:/data/media
restart: unless-stopped

and a fresh/empty /config folder.

WHY am I getting nothing but "Not authorized
You do not have access to this server.

You may be able to claim it by choosing “Open Plex…” from the Plex menu in the macOS menu bar or Windows system tray. "

I don’t have access to THIS server? What server? It is brand new, 100% fresh, never accessed before… so how in the world could I not have access? And telling me to do something in Windows or macOS when I’m not running EITHER of those OSs is beyond useless.

I suspect the issue may be that the server is physically located at a friend’s house and I’m trying to set it up remotely… but nothing is telling me I have to be on the same LAN, etc. Is that the problem? THEN SAY THAT. Instead I’ve been beating my head against a wall trying everything possible to install this.

Yes, this physical machine once upon a time had a Plex server running on it (immediately before I wiped the NAS). So does that mean I can never have one on here again?

Hours and hours… why so difficult?

Yes, normally you need to be in the same local subnet, in order to claim a plex server.
But try this: GitHub - ChuckPa/UserCredentialReset: User Credential Reset utility for Plex

Questions:

  1. DSM 6 or DSM 7 ?
  2. If DSM 7, have you tried the native app?
    – If the native app, have you tried the “Plex Claim Token” installation option?

I ask this because the Claim Token method installs itself using the provided https://plex.tv/claim token (which is valid for just under 5 minutes).

The Claim Token method confirms networking to Plex.tv is working
(local host network adapter is configured correctly as well DNS and Gateway IPs are correctly configured)

Ok, by why why WHY is this information buried in forums or technical papers? Why in the world does it not tell the installer the problem when the problem is detected?

Thank you for the help. I’ll look into that link.

Really sorry for the emotionally charged, 3am post of frustration.

I didn’t realize there was a native app. Thanks.

I’ve tried the native app with the Plex Claim Token, and that seems to work ok, BUT… I’m trying to restore from a backup and the native app is many versions behind.

I can’t believe how many hours I’ve been at this to get NOWHERE.

The current version is available on the downloads page.

Synology (and QNAP) are extremely slow updating our apps.
