Did you save any logs ?
Did not discover until later, otherwise I would have.
Hi,
Just chiming in to update that yes I also have been using Malwarebytes. It’s good to know we’ve found a common thread. I have similarly tried whitelisting all Plex executables as well as the entire folder and I like some others still get the transcoder error (yes after restarting etc.). The only way I can seemingly bypass this issue is by turning off web protections while using Plex.
Thanks for continuing to work on this issue.
Yeah it’s weird to pin down exactly, for me also it first only worked with turning web protection off entirely, but after adding the .exes back again like advised in the MWB forums, the problem went away and for me it still works with the protection on and the .exes excluded.
As I said i assume MWB somehow interferes with the port because something else also wants to access it, i had several .exes found when using netstat that used 32400, among them plex, malwarebytes, some actual malware i just caught by searching around (removed it quickly) and the microsoft office “helper” click-to-run or w/e its called.
I have come across Microsoft IP Helper Service listening on 32400 and causing problems - but normally that would stop Plex Media Server starting up. The name of the binary is iphlpsvc
I also have the Dashboard open through the Browser regularly, so my Browser connects to 32400, maybe thats whats causing issues with MWB thinking theres something irregular going on?
The definitive way to check if any other app is using 32400 is to run netstats with -a -b -n arguments and look for listening on 32400. But as i said if there are other apps listening on 32400 then Plex Media Server will fail to launch
For 32400 connections, all plex clients and Plex Web and Plex Media Server and Plex Transcoder and Plex Scanner and Plex Script Host running the bundles would be making connections to 32400 which is the port the server process listens on
It appears that the transcoding was due to the soundbar
With a soundbar that doesn’t support TrueHD, the Plex app for the Shield would always need to transcode as the SHIELD only supports TrueHD via passthrough.
With regards to the Malwarebytes Premium issue causing transcoder failures with following errors logged
ERROR - [Transcoder] av_interleaved_write_frame(): Unknown error

ERROR - [Transcoder] [stream_segment,ssegment @ xxxxxxx] Failed to open segment list 'http://127.0.0.1:32400/video/:/transcode/session/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/xxxxxxxxxxx/seglist

We now have a support article covering this
Windows: Transcoder failures during playback, live TV, or DVR recording
@sa2000 It appears my problem is resolved after updating my server to 1.15.2.793. There seems to be no more orphaned processes after an extended period of time of my server being up. I can play videos that were previously failing without any transcoding error.
That is good news. Thanks for the feedback
This is not a helpful answer! I became a prime member just a couple of weeks ago and now I can’t use it. This is intolerable! Please fix soonest.
We are all sorry you are having issues.
Follow instructions you have been provided, and your issue may be reviewed.
Read previous posts of this thread, MANY people here in this thread have had their issue fixed once they provided the information asked for.
I am also having this issue - I get the error message as mentioned in the title but I also get the following error:
Playback Error
There was an unexpected error during playback. Please visit our forums if you continue to experience problems.
I only have this issue for IPTV and have the debug logs which I can provide.
I have the latest version of Plex installed.
Also getting an Playback Error when starting live-tv.

You appear to be using add-on product xTeve and communications are with that software rather than HDHomerun directly
The Transcoder is reporting an error 5 seconds after start. I do not know why.
Have you approached the 3rd party application developer first ? Suggest you do that and if they believe there is a Plex Media Server bug, this can be outlined and I will follow it up

I am also randomly getting transcoder errors. Idk what to do. Plex Media Server Logs_2019-05-19_16-19-38.zip (5.2 MB)
Edit I will buy plexpass right now if you can fix. I have been trying forever to get this to work
Setup: beefy server linux in docker container.
Oof
Seeing this error in the log
May 19, 2019 12:34:46.878 [0x7fcff0ff9700] ERROR - Failed to calculate available disk space for path '"/transcode/Transcode/Sessions/plex-transcode-e77e6c2a-6ef2-452a-924c-f3014201d5b2-4-74b8c2ca-e197-4919-a470-484336eae362"': 1 (Operation not permitted)
Can you look into permissions for /transcode/Transcode/ for the plex user account ?
Also transcode temp directory must not be a network share
See this forum post which was for a similar issue Conversion failed. The transcoder crashed or failed to start up. - #8 by sa2000
Only difference is that codec directory for this version of Plex Media Server for your platform is
/config/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/Codecs/392df4f-2183-linux-x86_64/
I went into my root “/” directory and then chmod -R 777 /docker so all my containers have all permissions.
I then ran docker as root, so docker has all the permissions and the filesystem has all permissions. The container from the Plex username says it has “drwxrwxrwx” as the permissions.
No filesystem or smart errors
Connection to me is 800mbps out of my 1000/100 connection. Ping is 72ms. Operating system is Ubuntu server 18.04 LTS.
My Roku ultra will pause at 33% on most title and then error out. Ugh. Is there a “recommend” Plex device to watch? Roku ultra is hardwired to home internet and has no problem playing any 4k Netflix file but cannot play 95% of my 8-21mbps library. I think it’s a audio codec error because if I force quality to transcode direct play disabled it will work.
