Hi,
I have the same problem described in this topic. It is a very long topic, i havenāt read all comments yet but so far no resolution yet.
Discription: I have a raspberry Pi running Ubuntu with plex mediaserver, iāve connected an external SSD for storage. This works like a charm with my android bases Philips TV, iāve installed the app there directly on the OS of the TV. I can play 4K movies/series, everything. With my chromecast wich is connected with a wired connection i get the error, i stream this from my IPAD. Iāve extracted the logs, could somebody take a look and see what is going wrong, i canāt find the issue.
I also have the same issue , on windows 10 on some files.
Iām also running into this as well on basically every 4k file, and maybe 1/5 other non-4k files. Windows 10, latest Plex.
I only encountered this issue up until today. Never been an issueā¦
It did occur to me that i did recently add in a preroll. I removed the file path and disabled trailers in the 'Extras" settings menu, the transcoding error stop occurring.
Not sure if it has something to do with the preroll?
Mac OSX, Plex uptodate.
Does anyone have an update on this? I have been having the issue for several weeks thinking it was my machine but I devoted more resources to the transcoding and nothing. Attached are the logs yesterday was my most recent issue.
I have been having the same problem. I can play files in the plex web browser, but when using the plex app on Apple TV it give issues, even with files I was previously able to view. I have attached my logs. Please help.Plex Media Server Logs_2020-04-02_11-25-30.zip (2.6 MB)
Please the same problem here, in spanish: āLa conversion fallo. El transcodificador salió debido a un error.ā

Running Plex Server 1.19.1.2645
Windows 10 kb4549951
Iām getting this error while trying to play s01e04 of The Boys tv show.
Canāt play it in the serverās web player, canāt stream it to chromecast, canāt stream it to Android appā¦
This only happens with this single episode. I have been using Plex for a while and hadnāt had any problems up until now - itās like this particular episode has something special in it that prevents Plex from playing it.
I am also successfully able to play the episode with simple VLC player, so the episode itself is fine.
Restarting Plex Media Server and even the PC doesnāt solve it.
Please suggest
@m_dzhigarov_gmail_com - You are getting an error on the .srt subtitle file, which then causes the transcoder to fail. If you are using subtitles, would you try playing without them just to see if it works? Also, try doing a āRefresh Metadataā for the entire show (thanks to @OttoKerner for this approach) and wait A LONG time. In this thread it took until the next day for it to resolve. Your error is slightly different, but worth a shot.

Thanks you @hokierulz ! Disabling the subtitles fixes the issue.
I refreshed the metadata and will wait till tomorrow to try again.
I appreciate the help!
Thanks Bro,
This solved my issue:
āIn your case, it appears that the transcoder has detected invalid data in the srt files - for these moviesā
Also, as I have other files with same issue, I supposed to Turned Off āDefault Subtitleā from Settings to avoid initial transcoding errors caused by SRT files.
Great analyse, thanks!!
Plex Media Server Logs_2020-06-11_23-57-16.zip (5.6 MB)
Plex Server: 1.19.4.2935
OS: Windows 10 Pro x64 Version 1903 OS build 18362.900
So, Iāve gotten some questions from friends of mine who use my Plex server to binge movies and series. Transcoder exited due to an error, over and over again. Then I started noticing it too, on my phone, my Xbox, my parentsā TV, and their computers. Not sure if it happens while trying to watch Plex through the app installed on the same computer as my server, though. I havenāt tested that, because why use Plex on the same computer where all the files are located?
The computer is hooked up to a router through cat5 cable, Iāve got a stable connection. Havenāt noticed any dropouts or anything in a while. Though the only way I monitor it is to see if my IRC client drops out or not.
First it only happened once in a while, then it started to happen more often, and now I can hardly watch a show without it happening. Either after some seconds, some minutes in, or about halfway through. It seems really random, to be honest.
It just happened now while watching an episode of Criminal Minds. S07E18.
And lately it has started happening with music as well. So everything I use the server for.
Iāve tried turning off automatic subtitles, but that didnāt help. Not that Iām using subs much, anyway.
Anyone have any ideas?
Do you happen to have over 4,000 movies in your library? Iāve been having the same problem for months. Itās apparently an issue with an update plex made to curl. Plex knows about it and itās been going on for awhile now but⦠Iām not sure theyāre doing anything to fix it. I know several people that have had this issue.
Why yes, I do.
And about 13k episodes of different series and 245k tracks of music.
guys i got same problem, this solution fixed it for me: An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app
This is exactly my problem since yesterday, but I do not have over 4000 movies. Itās starting to happen more often and often and, like you, I cannot watch more than 5 minutes of anything without a transcoder error.
Maybe somebody can connect my post with this? Permanent Transcoder error since update
Whilst up to now I have only seen the issue on large movies libraries, in your case the problem arose when scanning this music library G-mp3 which has over 7000 albums

I have added this to the currently open issue for Movies scanning
You could try splitting the library up into 3 libraries with max 3000 albums in each ? The issue may still arise if periodic scanning is used and they are scanned quickly in succession. You can try it out. The issue should not arise when library changes are detected as it is unlikely that all 3 libraries would get updated at the same time.
Having the same issue. 3200 Movies 33k Episodes. Interesting is that within my network in my Apple TV i never had any errors coming up that the transcoder failed. But friends on Safari, Opera App, Samsung TVs, even on the Plex Player for Mac have contacted me to investigate the issue. Keep us updated about progress please.
Thank you
i have added a post to your forum thread
Once the windows tcp pool is exhausted, need to wait 5 minutes or so of no scanning for the used ports to go back to the pool. Or it may be safer to reboot windows
