[SOLVED] Alexa not playing sequel titled albums

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252

When playing my own music from a Raspberri Pi based PMS, I’ve noticed that the Alexa skill doesn’t handle “sequel” albums.

For example, I have Tubular Bells and Tubular Bells II and III on my media drive.

Any attempt to play TB II or TB III don’t work correctly. If I ask “Alexa, tell plex to play the album tubular bells two”, it will instead play the Tubular Bells album. If I ask for a song from TB II by name instead, the skill correctly reports the album is “Tubular Bells two” (so the meta data is there), however I can’t force playback of the whole album.

The same is true with other albums. Attempting to play Jean-Michel Jarre’s “Oxygene 7-13” or “Oxygene 3” will only play back the original “Oxygene”.

Is this a known issue at the moment? Is there a workaround?

To add to this a little more, I’ve noticed that the Plex skill can differentiate between the spoken requests for the albums “Equinoxe” and “Equinoxe Infinity”, but not “Oxygene” and “Oxygene Three”.

I’ve solved this.

Part of the issue is that in some cases the PMS is overriding the metadata in the files in an attempt to improve the quality.

The original Oxygene album (and tracks) are labelled as such, however in the instance of the albums Oxygene 7-13 and Oxygene 3, PMS has changed part of the metadata in the album and track titles from “Oxygene” to “Oxygène”. The accent over the ‘e’ seems to confuse the search.

In the case of the Tubular Bells albums, I renamed the album from Tubular Bells II and III to be Tubular Bells 2 and 3 instead, and that seems to work now.
