[SOLVED] How to correctly add The Twilight Zone (2019)

Hey! Today I downloaded the two episodes from The Twilight Zone (2019) (BTW, I also have the original series). Anyway, when I checked it out in my Plex library I saw they were recognized as duplicates from the original series.

This is how my folders look:

The Twilight Zone (2019)
├── Season1
│ ├── The.Twilight.Zone.2019.S01E01.REPACK.720p.WEB.H264-MEMENTO[rarbg].mkv
│ └── The.Twilight.Zone.2019.S01E02.720p.WEB.H264-MEMENTO[rarbg].mkv

Plex is very picky with TV shows.

See Plex Media Preparation Guidelines, specifically, Naming ‘Series’ & ‘Season’ Based TV Shows.

Regarding what you have for The Twilight Zone, you’ll need to dump all the download naming and re-name things a bit to meet Plex’s requirements. After renaming things, perform the Plex Dance to help Plex pick up the new names/structures.

Try:

/The Twilight Zone (2019)
  /Season 01 <-- two digits
/The Twilight Zone (2019) - s01e01.mkv <-- note spaces and dashes, not periods
    /The Twilight Zone (2019) - s01e02 - Nightmare at 30,000 Feet.mkv <-- episode name optional

Also, look at the metadata inside the files and delete any “garbage” in the names of the segment and audio/video/etc tracks (the files sometime have the download file name, not the episode name, audio format, etc). MKVToolNix (header editor) and MediaInfo are good, free tools that can help view/modify metadata.

Having the exact same issue here with The Twilight Zone (2019). My naming convention is just as FordGuy61 put it, and everything else added today is being recognised correctly, but nothing is appearing in Plex for this series at all. Thanks for any help people can offer!

I think the problem is the name is kinda fine, I have several shows with the same name format and they were recognized perfectly. Anyway, I got it working.

What you need to do is split the show. Please be careful. If you have legitimate duplicates, they’ll be split into a new show as well.

Once you do that, select the new show (in this case you’ll recognize it because it’ll only have one season and 2 chapters) and fix the match (select the 2019 version). I don’t know if this will fix it for good or if it’ll be neccesary to do this every time a new chapter goes out tho

As far as I can tell you can’t split shows or episodes; only movies. Can someone advise further on that?

Non-standard naming & organization eventually breaks. Plex is picky with TV shows, especially those with multiple reboots, such as The Twilight Zone.

I added the original The Twilight Zone to a TV library, let Plex download metadata, etc, then added the 2019 version, all following recommended naming. Plex correctly identified each series and organized them correctly. No splitting. No fixing matches.

Glad you have things working. But just note if you follow the recommendations you’ll have a better chance of initial success and not need to perform splitting, fixing matches, etc.

Apparently the word “The” makes a difference. When I added “The” to the folder and filenames, Plex recognized it perfectly.

Hi guys, I’m having the same issue (I have the original series as well). Except they’re not even showing up as duplicates for me

I tried splitting it anyways but nothing happened. I have “The” in the file name. I’ve got “-” instead of “.”. I don’t know how to fix it

Any ideas?

Just a quick tip for anybody not aware, if you’re ever having trouble matching a show, you can just use the TVDB ID number which is listed on the show’s TVDB page. So for The Twilight Zone (2019) the page is:

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/the-twilight-zone-2019

And under TheTVDB.com Series ID you can see that the ID number is 358915. You paste that number into the title box when you’re matching and it will just direct match with whatever series number you give it. Same works for movies and IMDb IDs.

I was finally able to get it to match correctly by removing the old series, than copy the new show over to the drive. Than I could match the new show correctly.

Than copied the old show back to the drive.

That’s how the filenames look:

Your suggestion worked for me, thank you very much!

@rwoffice - I took it to the next level and just named the new Twilight Zone Folder with the TVDB ID# 358915 and right away Plex separated the new from the original series.

So by just naming the series folders with the TVDB ID# will ensure the correct labelling under Plex. However, it will be difficult to locate your TV series folders if they are all just labelled with numbers.

This worked for me David. Thanks!

Hi, I too had the same issues to start with but changed my naming and got it all sorted, but now I have noticed another issue with Twilight Zone. On plex.tv it shows on Recently Added but won’t add to the On Deck after watching the first ep and on my Client (Rasplex) it wont show on either.

Any help would be appreciated.

I found the true solve for this. When viewing the posters of all your TV shows, hover over the problematic show and click the 3 little dots in the lower-right corner of the poster. From the list of options select “Fix Match” and then choose the right Twilight Zone series.
